We have 3 USB ports (except dash that only works when engine on) and with phones, iPads, watch, speakers etc we are often juggling to recharge things. Thought about getting one of these:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/UGREEN-High-Speed-Splitter-Extension-Compatible-Space-Grey/dp/B07M5LMGXZ

My questions are:

1) If we have 3-4 devices charging off one of the USB ports through this, will there be sufficient power to charge the devices?
2) The above link was just a quick search to show what I'm thinking about. Any recommendations for a good one?

Many thanks in advance (again).

Katherine

I have 2 Amazon Basics usb hubs similar to that.
powered through my inverter.
no problem charging 8 devises all at once.
about £6 each.

That will be better if she is on EHU but not for wilding, that is a good one though Mark, I have one at home

Thanks.

Want to be able to use it when parked up ... wilding. Don't want to have to put inverter on ... don't like to leave it on for hours. Want to be able to use it at night, mostly, to charge watch, phones and iPads.

We do have a cigarette style charging point at the foot of the bed (installed for a TV, which we don't have). I don't really want to use this as a) currently it powers the 12 volt fan to keep us cool in bed, and b) it is high up so nowhere to put the devices whilst charging.

Don't want to use the engine cigarette style charger as when we have the engine on i.e. driving. It powers the sat pad, 1 phone, dash cam and sometimes the Garmin ... that's enough devices around us.

So USB to USB would definitely work better for me. IF there will be sufficient power through the current usb which is by the head of the bed???

That one isn't suitable for charging anything Katherine
read the second paragraph on the right hand side of the advert

Because it is powered by a USB plug it will only have a maximum of 2.4 to split between four ports, you will be better off with one of these

Thanks Terry ... as it will mostly have all night to charge ... and usually only 2 devices on it ... will it work? USB to USB?

No it wouldn't work as a charger, if you buy something like this

you could plug your fan in as well as charge a few devices, you can buy 3m USB cables so you don't have to put your phones too near
https://www.amazon.co.uk/CLEEFUN-Ch...ay&sprefix=3m+usb+,aps,147&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1

The other alternative is to put another cigarette style charger where you need it and use one of these

that is the best and tidiest way in my opinion

Yup.... Have one of those 12v Socket expander thingies....
Last lot of 3m usb/usc cables have been fab as they have a, braided protective outer.

between the seatbacks and the side of my van there is a 50mm gap i have fitted 3 double usb sockets fed from the leisure batteries with in line fuses giving me power whoever we sit or lie in the van it’s great

Any of these will do with an inline fuse to les battery,im sure you will find a place to put it.:scared::wave:

We use nets to hold tablets and phones in place while charging at the end of the bed. The wires are threaded through a small hole in the side panel from the USB ports.

much ike trevs these are the three i got can show you at wooton if your not sorted by then,E3078E08-24C5-4A6F-ABB0-82965C84C0CE.jpg it actually cost more for the cable & in-line fuses than the ports then there’s always a little hesitation cutting holes even hidden ones in your pride & joy

Thanks again all. Not competent to wire something into the sinewave inverter and where the gadgets woukf have to sit is not convenient. So… Have use my motorhomer Amazon voucher to purchase 12 V to USB and cigarette style lighter holder to put over the bed. Also the storage units to put all the gadgets in. Thank you for the links was able to pick from those.

Really helpful as ever.

Most USB hubs require a 12v supply anyway and as mentioned earlier, they are usually only for data not power/charging.

Choose a dedicated USB charging hub that plugs into a 12v cigar socket, which is connected to the leisure battery.
It's not good practice to run accessories from the engine battery, to minimise the chance of a flat engine battery.
