Did I say at ANY point I had never been guilty of speeding ...

NOPE

However on the two occasions I've committed a speeding offence over the last 25 years

(bearing in mind I drive close to 250 miles a day for work 48 weeks a year PLUS the miles I drive in the motorhome )

And BOTH times were on National speed limit roads ...

And

BOTH were purely MY own fault due to lapses of concentration ...

I'm happy to say that there ARE no excuses for speeding .
And I took responsibility for those lapses and didn't try to complain about speed enforcement .

Only speeding twice in 25 years well done. There is a big difference between commiting an offence and been caught committing an offence. Just because you haven't been caught doesn't mean you haven't committed the offence.

I know Trev, I've been on 3 courses.

I'm getting the 'ang of it now though.

I'm more likely to get stopped for loitering with intent, but only if I leave the awning out ...

I had a one night stand many years ago with a real old harridan, who harangued anybody and everybody within hailing distance. I was arrested during our coupling for having an offensive person on my weapon ...

It's an increasing trend across Europe, France has privatised speed cameras in Private cars, mounted just below the front number plate.
Speeds are coming down from Greece (few in rural areas drive very fast anyway) to the UK.
Spain is enforcing particularly well with mobile units. (Plus vehicle checks).
Do I have a problem with it, well no I enjoy the journey.

. Lets face it, the technology is there to force people to stick to the limits but they would never use it.

Well, actually, you are wrong. New cars are now required to do just that. They display the speed limit and stop you exceeding it. Of course this can be overridden.
I've no idea how well it works. My newest vehicle is well into its teens.

Again... my point is that there you have a choice. As I said before I can't see them taking away that choice.

People buy fast cars so that they can speed, I can't see the average Porsche owner using that facility apart from maybe in a built up area with speed cameras, but once away from that the gloves are off.

Speed restrictors are dangerous, here is why, just emagine being in a situation where braking is a no go and only more speed gets you away from the problem, big truck about to cut you up and you are at cab level, one squirt of throttle on say a m bike and you are clear, brake and his back wheels have you for dinner, Rob will understand this one.

Thing is though Trev those situations are much more rare than people being killed by speed.

Yes prob but you have the choise, i do agree on speeders being stopped or a fine, but what i do find is some roads have silly restrictions, either to fast or too slow, or a silly change within 50 yards, one here is 40 then 50 and 30 all within 100 yards.

Yep, I'm seeing more and more of that here Trev.

Even my old school speed limiter is turned off by flooring accelerator, and same seems to be true for most if not all cars fitted with ISA.

Very common in Spain. Difficult to keep within the limits .
I see some of the speed restrictions in Wales have been reviewed. But also the numbers of people killed or injured has dropped quite considerably

I'd like to think so too, unfortunately I do see a time when your vehicle will log or even report every time you have exceeded the limit the ISA has set.

Won't be for a good few years because that kind of nannying is not seen as acceptable by many. That's changing.
