Un marked Camera vans

I blooming well hope that never happens in my lifetime. Can you imagine the situation? You pull out on the bike to overtake someone doing 55 in a 60 and they decide to do that thing some like to do where they put their foot down which is no problem on a powerful bike as you blip the throttle and your past in an instant unless the computer says no and cuts you off. Sometimes its safer to quickly break the speed limit on an overtake as you get past quicker. Certainly the case on a bike as its very easy to increase by say 20 mph and equally as easy to wind that speed off.

My Honda NC750 had a rev limiter Barry which I hated and it would do exactly that, it was like hitting a brick wall mid overtake. However, the safety campaigners would say that you should plan your overtakes more carefully.

I'm sort of playing Devil's advocate here just to demonstrate that the powers that be don't really give a flying one about your safety, they are more interested in cash. I would never want to see such measures introduced.

Naive or not ....

It's the drivers responsibility to adhere to the limits and to observe where the limits apply .

Whether the limits are sensible or not is a whole other discussion ...
BUT overall it's STILL down to the driver .
If you change down gears to keep the limit then you are poluting the air more which in turn kills more people slowly over time, its a no win situation.

There's a whole heap of modern vehicles that are capable of constantly transmitting data to the manufacturer etc ...
Including automatically alerting emergency services in the event of a crash/breakdown etc ....

Sat nav systems built in etc etc ....

The tech is already out there just a few key clicks to activate ;-)

I think you are missing the point I am trying to make.

Yes these features are all available with a few clicks, but what I am saying is that they could take the choice away from the driver in the name of road safety if they really wanted to. But then they would earn less cash through fines.

I didn't actually mean vehicles reporting, I meant sensors in cars physically restricting a car to stay within the speed limit then there would be no need to fine anybody for speeding.

But priorities regarding safe driving are just plain wrong sometimes. My granddaughters car was hit in a service station a while back (I posted about it at the time). The driver was clearly under the influence of drink/drugs and got very aggressive, she had to be rescued by a passer by. She 'phoned the police at the time but they said it didn't warrant sending anybody out - so that driver was not prevented from driving off and possibly killing somebody which is disgraceful.

As an aside, she has heard from her insurance company today and they are refusing to pay out the £12000 repair bill as they don't believe that the damage could have all been caused by such an accident even though it definitely was. However, for reasons I cannot disclose (yet) this is going to cost the insurance company very dearly! :)
I bet you will be getting cct footage from the garage, good move.

Yeah I knew where you were coming from Rob. Isn't that when you went from the rev limited sensible NC750 to the Suzuki Rocket ship super bike?

It was indeed Barry but the Suzi would have cost me my license or my life eventually! 😁

I'm not missing the point ....

I suspect legislation would be needed to enable some of the functions due to Data protection laws ...

And I suspect it's that that prevents the full technology being used ...at the moment ....same with the autonomy functions of cars with self drive tech available ....

The "they won't do it because they make money off speeding fines "

Is to be honest a bit social media "fact" IMHO .

Car has an e boost button on the steering wheel, press it and you get 20seconds with no limiter and an instant increase in power Rob.

What gears Trev?
Auto or manule makes no differance, slow speed more rpm meens more polution as driving a longer time from a to b.
Ok there is also a argument as to why vec are allowed to have top speeds well over the ton when legal max is seventy on permitted roads.
I would much rather have torque to pull trailers etc and less dropping gears to go up hills, torquey cars/vans are more relaxing and easy to drive over something which resembles a f one gocart, my we car is like that, very tireing on hilly irish roads.

I think Spain allows a 20kph excess of the speed limit to complete an overtaking manoeuvre

As for the twats who sit in lane 2 (or 3 on the Threlwell Viaduct and similar stretches) at 60 or 65mph and then accelerate when you pass, there should be a bonus for running them off the road. I'd like a sensor that illuminates a sign on the rear of the M/home, 'Accelerate when being overtaken? You can't (please check my spelling)' 🤔
