Hi all. Off to Wales soon so the Adrias been serviced. Just checking the tyre pressures. The tyre has 69PSI on it but in checking the book I got with the motorhome its 72PSI front 79 psi rear. Axel max weight is 2000 kg and 1850 kg. Continental 215/70 R15 CP. Odd why the tyre has one pressure on it but the book has another. Any idea which is correct.

O please, not another tyre pressure thread, there must be hundreds of them in t'internet. 😜
p.s. my money is on neither.

Maybe TMT would have the answer. If not apparently the Local Authority Technical Expert is the way to go ;)

Is it a good idea to exceed the pressure printed on the tyre.Does this not make the vehicle unsafe? Are the tyres the ones on the Motorhome from new?

If your tyres are original to van make sure they are less than five years old.
Tyre pressures are on a label as you open drivers door.
IIRC the 69 PSI on the tyre is a USA max pressure, N/A in UK

I think the views on here will vary 😂 between.
A. What the tyre says.
B. What the handbook says.
C. What the plate on vehicle says. In my van it’s right next to VIN plate by drivers door.
D. You can’t possibly know the correct pressure until you have been to a weigh bridge and worked it out with the specs on the tyre, the load rating.

I’m in the D camp

Hi. Our tyre specialist said go by the pressure written on the tyre if it’s just a commercial tyre. Motorhome tyres are different, more expensive, then you would go by what the book tells you.

Fully load the van as if you are going away, ie, diesel, water, food, clothes etc etc,Get weights of each axle from weighbridge, send email to Continental, with the weights and tyres fitted, and within a couple of hours they will email you back with recommended pressures.
I have recently done this, and the recommended pressures were way off what is on the sticker inside of the cab door.

Thanks, ive already checked out the local weighbridges and ill pop over this week and get the weights done. Adria say one thing, tyres say another.

This document explains tyres markings https://www.tyresafe.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/motorhome-leaflet.pdf. Weigh the van to get the load on each axle or take the max weight for each axle listed on the VIN plate and inflate according to this chart supplied by Continental.

Hi there I had the same proplem with my Elddis built on a Peugeot three years old and the pressures could not be changed as it is ECU controlled and I think Fiat is the same but if it's ABS controlled then you are able to lower them then they will reset when you go for a short run If you lowered then the TPMS light comes on the dash I tried three Peugeot dealership and a Fiat dealership and none of them would chang it but I was in Dundee and Struans the Peugeot dealership took it in and changed it for me at a cost of only £48
I had them set to 55psi so I could increase for some extra weight no light comes on the dash It is a dream to drive now

All queries regarding tyre pressures should be sent to Molly 2 who is the official tyre pressure admin.

He loves talking tyre pressures.

That's half the info needed. We don't need the axle max weights. We need the axle actual weights when the van is fully loaded. This may be less than the max, or indeed, it may be more.
We don't need the size, we need the load rating, which is the number (or numbers) jut after the R15 CP bit.
To calculate the correct pressure you need to know the actual load, the tyre's load rating and the "max" pressure, which is the pressure at that load rating maximum.

If it goes pop it is too high if it melts it is too low , if in doubt RTFM .

Here’s an alternative,
after pulling up after a run, check the temp of each tyre in the centre and each side, with one of these digital/laser temp readers.
if temp is even accross the tyre, then the pressures are ok, if the temp is higher in centre of tyre, pressures too high, if temp Higher on outer edge of tyre, then the pressure is too low.
look in the Pits at most race meetings, and as soon as car comes in from track, first thing they do Is check tyre temps👍

I should have added to my post above that before Christmas I replaced my front tyres at just over 40,000 miles as the tread was getting low. Looking at the wear across the tread it was so even I was quite surprised. I had set the pressures as I have described above. This was all the evidence I need to keep using this method of determining the right pressure. I'd weighed the van at full holiday load which is how it usually travels.
