3G dongle is ok if you can get a signal, you could watch X Factor on itv player, but it wont be live. The only option really is an expensive satelite system where it finds itself every time you stop somewhere, or park up early and go to a pub where its on. :) Good luck with that.

My 3 Dongle can't keep up with sype picture even @ HSPDA so I doubt you'd have much success with I player and the usage would, I suspect, be very high.:(

Greetings,
You can access the BBC web site on line using lappy+ dongle ;)(but only in the UK:eek:. because of copyright issues). Of course you need a good signal and virtually unlimited download capacity plus some kind of inverter (which will use mega power from batteries:mad:). Personally I would not dismiss satellite so lightly as there are many very good automatic systems out there (we use Camos:D) that use very little power requiring nothing more than being able to see the satellite and a cheap free to air decoder from Maplins (12v so no inverter)plus you can watch British tele in most of europe.
Hope this useful.
Regards TGW

Even an expensive Satelite system is no guarantee if the view of the satelite is blocked by hills or trees. We have found this out from experience. We have a roof mounted Oyster 85cm Dish that finds the satelite itself.

I thought at your age youd still be listening to the wireless.:D:D

Arthur me bonny lad, you sound as henpecked as me as er indoors is just the same. :(

What I do, is to set the DVD at home to record all of the rubbish, er, I mean reality shows. If we get a signal then she watches live and I go to the nearest pub. :D

I put a thread on here recently about Aldi selling the satellite dish and kit to go with it for about £49.99 or so. I know that you are still new to gas mantles in Yorkshire but you are an international traveller now and need to keep up with technology.

Im also using a camos dome system / pace 12v box / avtex 19 tv the 3 use 7amp hour of juice so you need a good battery for this (125ah) lasts me only 2 days and thats with all led lights fitted inside van (my wifes also a telly addict)

Never understood why people take a telly away with them when wild camping myself. You park up in a scenic area, lovely view, you have made the effort to get away from it all then sit infront of the telly

when we go away we only have 1 light on or maybe no light only a candle or 2. no tv or radio just peace & quiet listening to the sea or the sounds of the countryside depending on where we are parked.
i know its not everyones cup of tea but it is ours.

correct we are all differant i don't watch telly haven't done for years but my wife does :rolleyes:so she does thats the kind of thing that makes marriage work:eek::D on a personal note tony i think you need help:rolleyes::D

What about a normal type ariel where you push it up and twist it around from inside, rather than the satellite version. I find those only take 5 mins to set up and tune the TV in.

We have one of those 'expensive' sat systems, it self seeks any chosen satelite, trust me they can be as bad as normal telly. You must have a clear line of vision to the satalite that you want, usually Astra2e. Many sites and stop overs I've been on you simply don't get a clear line because of trees or buildings.

I also take a 3g card and watch stuff on BBCI player and the other channel equivelents but you need to watch your contract as you can end up with a big bill if you are not careful.

I would prefer not to have telly but having 2 kids its a very simple way to amsuse them, there is only so many games you can play with them. No matter how much we like to harp back to the good old days its the year 2009 and they expect to have their telly. I also ensure I have plenty of stuff downloaded onto the hardrive to keep em amused on wet days.

marriage works better when you have 2 of a kind together.

I got fed up quite quickly when we bought our first MH of never getting a decent TV signal and also as we planned to go abroad and also spend lots of time in the van in winter and summer we splashed out and got a Camos Dome. Great for wild camping (like the OP 95% of the time we wild camp) it tunes itself in very quickly and uses no power once tuned in. The maxview free to air box uses little power and when we are wildcamping we use a small 10" LCD laptop style DVD/TV player which uses a fraction of the power of a 19" normal tele. Doenst matter how windy it is but you cant park under trees. mountains and houses are fine just trees or obsticles very near the dome effect it.
