Dilemma time. Currently in South Devon probably for another week or so just outside Salcombe and we love it here. The next stop was going to be near Lyme Regis in West Dorset for a week at a CL we went to last year. From there we were going to slowly head east all along the south coast probably into the Autumn and as far as Kent. We have done bits of it many years ago but the Dilemma at the moment is whether we should bin all that and head west into Cornwall and then back up through North Devon but we did all that last year so maybe we should be seeing some "new".

Michelle likes to walk, especially coastal walks and I just like to fly about on the scooter, have a swim (when and if it ever gets warm enough) and just take in the scenery. We prefer small coastal villages to large towns or cities. So what would be your top places to see between Dorset and Kent, inland as well as coastal? Where is ideal for walking and biking and great scenery (Coastal and inland)?

South Downs Way is popular and scenic. In West Sussex there are places like Arundel with the Castle; looking across the fields from the A27 towards the Castle at this time of year, from about 730am, there are mist clouds, creating the impression that the Castle is supported on a bank of cloud. Into East Sussex, there are campsites/stop offs around the A21 Hastings road, and there used to be parking alongside the 'Village Green' area in Tunbridge Wells

Thanks although to be honest as we tend to stay a fair while at each stop and use the scooter to tour I doubt we will be wild camping. Generally we use off grid CLs. I'm good at finding them, it's just picking the right places to visit.

No worries, just a good spot for an overnight or two maybe to break a journey. What do you mean by "Off Grid CL" ?

C&mc certified locations. There's still a few that have not gone all singing and dancing with ehu, showers and manicured lawns. Usually farmers fields in remote places down a goat track where your wing mirrors end up nicely decorated in foliage. 😁

They suit us as they are not that popular, in theory they should only ever have five vans on max, usually tons of space and we don't move the van as we use the bike. It's a bit like wild camping without the hassle.

Corfe castle near Swanage and studland beach are worth a visit good walks in new forest

Long time decades and decades, since I explored south coast. 2 things stuck in my mind. Rye (twee but charming) and Romney Marsh /Dungeness.

There is a no frills CL at North Stoke near Amberley, West Sussex. It is pretty close to where the South Downs Way crosses the River Arun which if you like walking will give you several directions to go. I haven’t checked out the CL but it looks well positioned for this beautiful area. You can hire a boat on the River Arun nearby at Houghton Bridge.

Thanks. Found it I think. Looks ideal.

Cheers. I had Swanage on the list if for no other reason than it features in an Inbetweeners episode. 🤣
You'll be going to see the ice cream lady then. We went to Swanage on a fieldtrip when I was in the 6th form but we didn't know about her then. Swanage is lovely but that episode was actually shot in Littlehampton.

Anywhere along the coast between Weymouth and Studland is great.

Near Swanage, Worth Matravers and the walk down to the disused Winspit Quarries where they film Dr Who is interesting.

The abandoned village of Tyneham in a military firing range is also worth a visit. But check access times.

Lulworth Cove and the walk to the fossil forest is worth doing but again check access times as military range again.

Views from the Ringstead bay headland are very good. And then there is Portland and Chesil beach with bits and pieces to visit in these places. Have a look at the latest tourist attraction, the illegal migrant floating hostel when you are in the area.

If you have a scooter you won’t be mugged for parking!

That is the one. The villages of Amberley and Bury (where I live) are pretty, Amberley has a tiny cafe with excellent refreshments. There are good pubs and eateries nearby. Charlies Farm Shop at Bury has some nice food but at Farm Shop prices. There are footpath bridges across the Arun just N of Houghton Bridge and at South Stoke.

Lol! Brilliant. 🤣 A fellow fan. Littlehamptons top of the list now.

Great info folks many thanks. Dorset and the downs are doing well so will spend a fair chunk of time there I think. Got a week booked near Lyme Regis from the 13th and will maybe try the CL at Stoke / Arundel or something in that area. Generally out on the bike 30-40 miles in either direction is about the max we will do but it's nice to have stuff on the doorstep also. Those two stops should cover most of it over two or three weeks. Then I guess we will move on toward Brighton etc.

We've just left the THS at Burton Bradstock (probably the same field as the earlier Motorhomer rally). OK for £11 per night, I think it runs until the last week of August. Lots of walks as well as nice country lanes for the scooter
