I've just bought a new TomTom GO 5000 and I find it won't accept the POI. Has anyone else got one and found a way to install them ?
Unfortunately you are correctHi Biglol, your new TomTom is part of the latest range and doesn't accept third party POI, there has been lots of complaints in the TomTom forums about this but so far there hasn't been anything done to fix the problem, sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I'm in the same boat with my new TomTom Go 6000.

The new Tomtoms look good with the bigger screens etc but you cannot beat the old GO series for being able to update and play around withEvery TomTom navigation device comes with thousands of POIs (Points of Interest) pre-installed and you can easily install more.
Note: This feature is not available on the following devices: GO 400, GO 500, GO 600, GO 5000, GO 6000.
A TomTom POI set consists of a file with the extension .ov2. You can also add an optional .bmp bitmap file that contains icon images for your POI set.
I use tomtom go's, same size screen as your XL but has a SD slot so can be converted to the Truck Version, no more being directed down tight roads etc, a lot cheaper than a new snooper and because they are upgradeable it will always be possible to have the latest software, maps, speedcams and POI's.I currently have a old tomtom xl with not much room to load any more on it so I'm thinking of getting a new satnav. Can any one recommend any other makes or is tomtom a good option , the caravan club are advertising the Snooper would this have the same problem with the POI,s.
