Toast

I recently posted about the Ridge Monkey sandwich toaster ... It comes in two sizes, I got one of each, the smaller one is a perfect fit for a standard sized sarnie and the bigger one will take about 1½ sized sarnie (I use Aldi's malted bloomer and two sandwiches will fit in the bigger one, if placed base to base.) They are very good quality.

I also bought them both from the same supplier so only had to pay postage for one, but the price of the larger one could be found cheaper elsewhere, Basically I got the two for slightly more than the price of one elsewhere.

I'll try to find the link.

This is them

This was my post in another thread

I'll try and stick up pictures later.

When I was a bairn, my mum had one of these, I inherited it but it went missing during a break-up with an ex ... a few tears later I found a more modern version on Ebay with blue handles, it's probably from the early '60's. They were called Toastrite Sandwich makers and were designed for the open fire, small round sarnies.

When making a toasted sarnie in any of these things, apply butter, or margerine to the OUTSIDE of the bread ... this gives a far better result and allows the heat to penetrate more into the filling.

My favs are ... corned beef with beans (with or without cheese.) Fish fingers (partly fried first) then popped into a toastie with sliced, pickled beetroot (again with or without cheese.) Jam, but beware it gets BLOODY hot. Cheese with smoked sausage. ... even just buy a sarnie on a meal deal from the supermarket and slap it in yer Ridge Monkey ... yummy.

Bought one from a brocante years ago. I paid a few francs for it and I love it.

I have ordered the mesh highlander at about 7 bucks tho the sarny maker looks good but think i may never use so wont bother, just type in highlander toast maker ebay it should come up.

We have one of these - it does make toast one piece at a time.

Drawbacks I've found - use stale bread - all you are doing with fresh bread is drying it out at the start which is a waste of gas.
- dont' turn your back on it :scared: - it'll go from being hot bread to burnt toast as soon as you do!!
- crumbs of bread fall down onto the lower mesh, smoulder and set off the smoke alarm.

Its not tryangle toast but the thing thats put over burner with 3/4 sides standing up you silly billy,im told these are rubbish but above ones good.
I have one of those in the shed somewhere, we bought it at a MH show sometime ago and it was naff, we have a flat metal perforated plate with a wire covering that sits flat on the gas ring and find that is great for toast making.beats using the grill every time, there was a post about these sometime ago on here and someone said that close contact with the gas flame coulkd be carcinogenic, oh well , all the toasters I have seen work on the same principle,

I've still got a bunch of Danish Copco cast iron stuff from the early 80s... most of it still useable. I used to love it and completely wore out a deep skillet and a large stove-top/oven casserole pot. Trouble is, it's so darned heavy I need both hands to get it out of the cupboard these days, so I don't use it much any more. I don't have a frying pan in the van, other than one of those daft tiny ones that just hold one egg. I do have a grill though, so job done for most things.
