Tips for securing hose pipe in filler

The old van seemed to have some kind of nick in the pipe and I could always wedge the hosepipe in and it wouldnt fly out mid flow. This new one is a right PIA. Of course what happens is no matter where you are stood it will fly out and soak you. Its like a magnet. The flaying hose will seek you out even if you stand two fields away. I think there are all sorts of things you can buy but I'm looking for inventive simple solutions. My idea at the moment is a champagne cork (Cava will do I think). Carry it in your pocket and just wedge it in the hole with the hose pipe. Not tried it yet, still trying to get dry after the latest fill.

Any other ideas?

You can buy a filler adapter from Amazon, EBay, etc. that locks into the filler port as securely as the locking cap and you attach the hose to that with a standard Gardena/Hozelock female fitting (i.e. the one that's probably already on the end of your hose). However, there is more than one type of filler port and you need to ensure you get the correct one.
However, what I've done is to use a double-male connection to attach a six-inch length of hose to the end of the hosepipe. The short bit of hose fits down the filler pipe and the resulting assembly has a 'groove' that sits on the filler port and doesn't slip out. That works for Fiamma fillers -- Dunno about the rest!

Stupid boy. Everyone knows the wives look after the inside and us well ard men look after the outside
She can't do both ?
Retraining required.
I've got one of those expanding hoses and the end fitting usually hooks on somehow . But if it comes loose yes it comes after you

Very disappointing answers so far. Come on!! It has to be free and inventive! :D
Is there a convenient window that you can partially open and drape the hose over the catches to retain it? Not, of course, that I'd use that method as, although initially cost-free, a broken catch is probably a lot more expensive to fix than either method I suggested above. Another 'cheap' solution is a "Command Hook" or two to support the hose using loops of string or elastic hair bands. Those hooks are easy to cleanly remove if required (e.g. before selling the van on)...

OK. So you mount a foldable table top next to your filler cap and on this you build the Mousetrap game (remember that from the 60/70's). In the final stages you alter the position of the diver so that instead of triggering the mouse trap he dives into the filler hole instead.

Then, when you plug in the hose just hold it a few seconds, start off the mousetrap sequence and at the end the diver should wedge his head between the hose and the side of the aperture and trap the hose.

I can't believe nobody has thought of this before!

My filler is close to the driver's door so I loop the pipe through the door handle and then into the filler, it stays put

Thats more like it but I think you are overthinking it.

There you go! I might patent this. :D

Its not perfect as there seems to be more blow back stream with the water but then it is high pressure here. I have considered attaching the cork to a string Australian hat style and sticking it to the side of the van above the filler but I fear in strong winds this might annoy anyone sat in the train window.

Your cork idea sounds pretty good to me Barry but not Champagne and definitely not Cava!

Something more appropriate to your standing, maybe Blue Nun, Black Tower or Liebfraumilch? 😐
Or Lambrini, it's a party in a bottle don't you know?

Depending on which knock off brand you get the hozelock connectors are a good fit into the van port. If it was slightly lose then an elastic band wrapped around the outside would bulk it out.

For your filler, this is by far the simplest solution - https://amzn.to/4f3wC6q

Yes, you have to spend a tenner to get it. If you want free, be 'free' to fart around with daft workarounds :)

Nothing daft about it at all! Works perfectly, costs nothing which was the whole point and they are in plentiful supply. I also finally got round to corking the electrics hole to ground under the dinette seat this morning with another Cava cork I had saved as I suspect as winter looms mices will have found the prospect of a winter in the van very attractive. Fits perfectly.

You are all being conned spending money on the proper accessories. Be like the Bear Grizzle of motorhoming like me and make use of what's around you.
