Stopped overnight at the Tintern Abbey POI, south Wales, along the Wye Valley.

Asked if it was ok in the Anchor pub, and the barman said yes if you buy a meal, so we had some food and a drink there. I did not think the meal was very good for £11, I have paid £6.50 for the same meal in Scalby Mills pub in Scarborough, and it was twice the quality of the Anchor. My daughters meal was very good (her words) though, so perhaps it was just the steak and ale pie that was not very good.
The location is superb and kinda creepy with the abbey in the background.

I have stayed there on a few occasions and had no problems, you do have to remember that is not a normal pub grub place. I would have thought that the food price was fair.

What does that mean? There is a restaurant in the building and menus in the bar area for food to be ordered at the bar. The choice I made for a meal was because I have had a steak and ale pie, chips and peas before in Scarborough, so was able to compare it to the Anchors meal, and I found the pastry to be so thin that it needed chipping off the dish to be eaten and the chips small and dried out. It is of course only my opinion, but I did not think it was worth almost twice the price I would pay in Scarborough.
Perhaps I should have said something when I was there, but I had my daughter over from Germany with her son and did not want to make a fuss in the pub.

I've stayed there and thought the food good but the prices reflect the position. Surely the view is worth a few quid. I'm in Lyme Regis and can assure you that £11 is cheap by the prices here.

I would have been OK with the price if that particular meal was OK.
