This years Epic Summer trip

Today was fantastic but exhausting. So much ascent and descent. Its absolutely the best fun in the world but you might find this hard to believe but its actually hard work, certainly after five or six hours. Still never got to see the top of Mont Blanc. :D Did another chairlift though up to the top of yet another mountain. This time looking back over to our Mountain le Grand Mont about 15 miles away. I love the chairlifts. They are so much fun. Les Saisais where we ended up and went up the chairlift was buzzing. Lots of bonkers mountain bikers going up in the chairlift and throwing themselves down the impossible tracks to the bottom and then doing it all again.

Tomorrow we will so the Col du Pre again, Lac de Roselend and then a Marmot hunt up the Cormet de Roselend.

Few more pics and finally the video I took the other day of the Col du Pre ride has uploaded.

Michelles mountain (Mont Bisanne in the distance) she left me behind on and disappeared up like a scalded cat. :D

Col du Pre and Lac de Roselend video. Sorry if its a bit shaky. :D

its the wrong bloody col (colle) though. 😂
50 ish KM to far west.

If you mean the Col de l'Iseran its 130km by road from here.

We were going to go that way but there isn't time now if we want to catch the Etape Tour de France and the real Tour de France down near Alpe d'Huez. I've done most of the highest ones. I prefer the smaller ones to be honest. Generally better scenery, usually but not always better weather and I definitely prefer the narrower roads with lots of switch backs. Col du Tourmalet and col du Tentes are the highest ones we have done on the bike at around 7000 and 7200ft

No, not that one either. The right one for the soundtrack. :)
And as the crow flies.

Ah yes. The Italian Job. Yes that is of course why I chose that track :D The pass in the opening scene where that song was used I think though was this one, The Great St Bernard pass. Quite a trek from here. I don't think its the little one Kev posted.

The end scene I believe is Strada Provinciale 50 in Italy which as the crow flies is not that far from here but its a dead end you have to go down the Aosta valley or via Turin to get there. They are on the list though. Got to be done but not this year.

Great thread, Barry, thank you 👍

Notice they’ve installed some nice, strong safety barriers near the end of your ride… 😜 😉😎

Yeah they dont want you driving off the long straight and safe dam or falling in the lake so there are barriers but none whatsoever on the narrow twisting col :D Which I have to say is way higher and steeper than it looks on any photos or video. If you suffer from vertigo give it a swerve.

Sadly I've lost all the timeline from this years trip, but Google sent us up this col, it just got worse & worser eventually into a farm with no way out and difficult to turn round, but Liz was in bits, seriously scared and sat on the floor in the back of the van until we got back down. I was okay, but I have to admit it was very sketchy with loose gravel. I could see it getting worse, but it was single track and I didn't fancy reversing several miles back down, so I had to continue.

The ones I spotted looked like string!:ROFLMAO:

There were none higher up the mountain ... 🤷‍♀️

LOL! The string ones are actually pathetic electric fences to keep the cows off the road. We had them last year in Salcombe on the farm CL we were at for yonks. They don't work. The Cows or the wind knock them over and the next thing you know you open the door and there's a feckin great cow staring at you.

They dont seem to bother higher up. I remember in the Pyrenees very high up on a single track coming round the corner to a load of yobbo cows who refused to move and got a bit lairy. We were coming back down and I didn't know what to do as there was no other way back. Eventually I just went for it in a gap between them and the cliff face. :D Nothing happened. They just didnt move. There are probably cars still up there blocked in.
