The C&MC and use of electricity.

We have noticed that places which might be suitable for wildcamping if near a camp site will have the no overnighting signs in them quite often.

True but how do you know that 30/40% of motorhomes are both members of CMC and also wildcampers?
I really hope you're right btw! Maybe I'm just a pessimist
I don’t know but then not all caravan owners are either.
In most parts of the world we outnumber caravans, the U.K. is almost unique.
But you only have to see what’s been happening in recent years to appreciate what’s going on. One thing for sure they are looking down their noses at a large part of their membership, not exactly a good position for them to be in. What dealings with CAMPRA have they had, probably none, or next to none. We are members of an organisation who don’t like what we do, now that’s takes some getting your head around.

If motorhomes make up 30-40% of wheel based campers for want of better words to describe Caravans and motorhomes what percentage of those are looking for none EU pitches? Not many I dont think judging by what I observed last summer. Maybe that will change as price hikes drive both caravaners and more motorhomers to investing in Solar.

I wouldnt bet on sites lowering prices either if they put in non EU pitches. They will still be facing spiralling costs elsewhere on the site from heated shower blocks to the fuel for the tractors etc. Everyone has had to put their prices up or find ways to cut corners or both.

Sorry Barry try booking grass only pitches on the CCC sites, they are always first to go. We visit the CCC site in Dunbar and they have around 30 grass only pitches constantly booked out. Obviously in winter that will change, hence why in my email I referred to nine months of the year. This is all about offering choice instead of forcing folk to pay for something they don’t want, then applying surcharges to them. Yes many organisations are struggling I get that. But last February we booked a hotel for a night on our visit to the NEC. Travelodge charged us £55 for the room. This mob are charging this for a pitch on some of their sites. I reckon their average price is now north of £40. Oh and we are not members of Travelodge, just customers. ;)

I dunno Bill, maybe the CCC members are a bit more into informal off grid camping than the C&MC members. The C&MC sites always seem full to bursting to me so maybe in their opinion (rightly or wrongly) they have it right for the vast majority of their members who don't seem to want to cut the umbilical EHU cord. Personally I have only ever stayed on one of their sites and that was the unusual large Aire style site at Dockray Meadow in the north Lake District. It was ok really. No facilities like showers etc but it had EHU and a service point. I only went on it as it was cheap and the only option in that area. I wouldn't normally think of going on one of their proper sites though EHU free or not. Too pricey and too busy.

The only way I can see the C&MC changing is if people vote with their feet over this and I reckon there is no shortage of punters lining up to fill their EHU sites and pay top dollar for it.

It asks for details at the end but as it is supposed to be anonymous it just lets yo submit it anyway so fill you boots.

I mentioned that it should allow none members to empty cassettes and get fresh water at all sites which have the facilities, as this would effectively stop some owners from indiscriminate dumping and using public loos etc, and this would help give us a better image, and maybe £7.65 is a bit too expensive for this service.

The CCC also allow 4 hours access for you to have a shower etc.
Will they ever do this, well actually you might be surprised to hear yes eventually screaming and shouting, I think they will. the old guard will die off and the new guard are bound to include some of us infiltrators 🤞

That's my hope. I think you're bang on though and we know the CAMC are miles behind the times so hopefully while we're still touring, fingers crossed🤞

Never, never :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

We love sitting outside their New England Bay site in Galloway.
We even have waste disposal and fresh water there, and your right on the beech. :)
I've never actually visited but I've explored on google earth. I must admit there's a massive part of me wants to go JUST because it sit's so close to the official camp site!
Being the analytical sort I wondered why the site was so busy considering the alternatives?
I wondered what the site campers felt about the alternative and what they though of the people using it?
I wondered what the campers on the car park/aire thought of the campers on the campsite?
BUT finally I wondered why I was so drawn to this particular aire simply because it was so close to a campsite!
I figured that both groups felt they were superior to the other and my feelings are driven by a desire to have a laugh at the suckers on the site!

I don’t feel superior to anyone, nor do I think folk are suckers for using the site. Some on arrival for the first time may well be unaware of the alternative, and others simply don’t like wild camping. We normally spend two nights outside the campsite then head in for the last night. But with the chemical waste point there now I may well not bother. Who knows. But I just love parking as close to their gate as possible, not because I feel superior, but because I know it irritates the life out of some, and others (not only wardens) look down their noses at us. :)

I feel superior to everyone Bill, but that's mainly because I am.

However, I won't be renewing my CAMC membership this year and surely people will leave in droves when they see that?

I actually meant to leave last year but then I noticed it had automatically renewed.

When others find out you have left they will rejoin Rob.
They won’t have to put up with your superior attitude. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Seriously, I am thinking of doing likewise.
For all I use them now I may as well.
But I will have to get the boss to agree:)
