T and satellite problem

It's all a bit of a pain when they switch something off that was being used. They are now switching off 3G so anyone with old kit will have to buy new. The reason they are switching off 3G is to give more room to 4G and 5G.

Will have to try it. Not sure if the Maxview free to air has HD or not. Its quite old.
Mine didn't I had 3 one in doors one in the van an one spare all binned now They were all around the same age as yours

Retuned just now and its working!! The original BBC one and Two on the favourites had gone so I did a full scan and a few BBC ones and twos and BBC one Scotland appeared at the end of the ridiculous list of nearly 3000 channels on the main Astra 28 menu. Never found BBC 4 or BBC 3 so not sure if they have been added further up the list or not but I dont think we have had BBC3 working on it for yonks anyway. So it looks like we are good to go.

Just resurrecting this thread. While away in the van this last three weeks everything worked fine but I did see some kind of splash screen warning from BBC about the change. Information is confusing. Some reports say the old SD will be switched off in 2024 other say its already switched off.

If mines working now will it continue to work? Also if not that receiver you bought off Amazon, did it come with 12v adaptor?

Probably cant help much but on our Camos system which is a dome but really old now on the tuner box there are two options for Astra 28. On one it tunes in every time I switch the receiver off and on again but the second one remembers its tuned in if the van hasnt been moved.

On the subject of the BBC and HD. We use a Maxview free to air receiver. I bet its 14 years old though. Not tried it to see if it still gets BBC. Will have to check.
I have a Tracvision Dome and a Maxview box. Recently (within last 2 months), I am unable to get Astra 2 28.2E but still able to get Astra 1 19.2E. I have had the system checked out and it is to do with the transponder (old SD) the Tracvision is looking to find to lock onto are no longer available. So whilst the dish will wiz around and come across a signal, it won't lock onto it. Tried a HD receiver box but still no good. The best I can get anywhere is Sky News International on Astra 1. Time go down the Internet viewing route. I have a Firestick and that works great but data usage abroad (roaming) is an issue that need to be considered.

That sounds more of an issue with the satellite dish controller rather than the Freesat receiver which is a separate box. My Camos Dome still tunes in alright to all the various satellites, I think its potentially the Maxview receiver box that might be the issue except its working right now.

Yes, Not as easy to find the Satellite with it as it was with the maxview but that could be the signal loss between sd & hd I've found that Irish BBC seems to be easy to pick up.

That'll be the Val Doonican effect ... Back in the pre PC era, when video recorders were everybody's [expensive] aspiration, he told the gag on his Saturday night BBC1 show about the Irish VCR; it records the programmes you dislike and then plays them back when you're not in the house ... :ROFLMAO:

Im a bit confused re finding the satellite. On my system I have two boxes. One is the Camos dome controller box which has buttons on it so you can select up to about 5 different satellites one of which is Astra 27 whatever. The second box is the Maxview free to air receiver which has all the channels on it and also the various satellites. I was assuming that its the Camos box that does the finding of the satellite and the receiver just tunes into whichever channel you want depending on which satellite you currently have selected on the Camos.

I suspect you are correct Barry, the satellite list on Maxview would only normally be for controlling a disc switch and the EPG, I doubt your dish can take commands from anything other than the Camos box.

I think ill just leave mine. Its working on all channels still. If I lose it over the summer I cant say it will be a major problem.

Sorry Barry I assumed you had a manual set up which is what I have. I've never had any problem locking on just use a compass to find direction if the suns not visible

Ah of course. That explains the confusion on my part. Ive had the Camos since 2008 I think. Still going strong but I dont think I would bother again. Back then we got coverage all over France, into Northern Spain and as far east as Lake Maggiore and beyond. Now we tend to watch most stuff Ive downloaded. Hardly ever watch live TV these days.
