Stuck on grass !!

Have now been stuck at least 3 times on wet grass on clay. With front wheel drive and more weight on back, even with plenty of deep tread on the tyres, it is a recipe for disaster. Tried the yellow mats, even sitting on them overnight. Absolutely U/S. They just shot out from under the wheels. I like the wood tied through the wheels though. Have any of the members used this trick? Will have to start carrying some rope and wood.
If you just use stiff plastic trays they often will just slip out, secret with the sand ladders/waffle boards is the holes, makes then sink in a little and therefore when you come to drive away they grip rather than slip.

I carry 6, they stack inside each other so take very little space and weigh nothing always reverse/drive onto 4, if you need to use levelling ramps make sure they are on top on the waffles and make sure your way out or down the levelling ramps, when you come to leave put the extra pair in front of the drive axle and off you go.

With a 4x4 I tie the boards to the tow bar so they follow me and I don’t have to get muddy, but doesn’t work with the MH as theres nothing substantial to toe too.

Been stuck 4 times. Once in our old hymer and pulled off fields three times in 8 years fulltiming.in our coach. We now have 4 thick mats 2x2 mats and we always park on these when on grass. Our attitude is if it's too wet e.t.c then we are staying put anyway 😂

i’ve had bread crates for years and they’ve worked for me several times just spreading the load when parked up & allowing you to move off , a couple of times they have shot out when trying to drive onto them as a revalation lee had some at hereford and i thought at first he’d done a poor job of cutting them down with jagged edges then i realised putting them with the jagged edges down planted them so they didn’t skid out !

Yes, thanks for the reminder. A bit worried about the brake pipes round by the wheels. The wood should be clear, but I will jack the van up and check the ropes will clear everything
The idea is good though.
If you have a Ducato with steel wheels anything going through the slots will hit the brake calipers, it may work with some alloys. It should work on RWD and drum brakes like the vehicle in video.

Snow chains are the solution but I struggle for payload weight as it is so are going to make a lightweight set from washing line and inch square timber that I can put on like snow chains. Let’s face it metal snow chains are overkill considering what they are designed for versus me using something to travel 12 foot in soft soil

I think that's a nice idea, I know I've seen some wash.line that has a metal braided core too.
Ideas for the final fastening anyone??

These really work (I carry them and have used them) and are cheap(ish) and lightweight plus they do not take up much room either...

Have you developed a stutter

:)

No but it feels as if its been missed amongst all the home spun remedies being touted. For less than 50 quid and for something that works and is easy to stow, I'm surprised that folks haven't gone for it tbh.

It surprises me that you think people actually read what others post.
