spray job

I like my Citroen relay,swb,low roof so much I'm thinking of getting a spray job done on it,any suggestions?idea of cost?
I'm based in S.Manchester.

doing it your self with industral 2 pack about 100 bucks,if paying someone else any thing from £700 to 2 grand .

for a decent job on a van doing inside doors etc. going rate seems to be about £1000
 
Years ago a friend asked if he could use our large garage to do a bit of touching up on his car as a bit of rust was showing through. It was a Red Ford Fiesta. Bit battered but it got them around. Anyway I gave him the key to the garage as we were away for the weekend. Got back late Sunday and did not bother checking the garage. Monday morning opened the door and there was RED dust everywhere and a heap of aerosol cans but no car. Turns out that the touch up paint was not a very good match so he went and bought a load of cans from Halfords and another couple of DIY car parts places and resprayed the whole car. I saw it a few days later yikes what a mess. Paint on the windows, doorhandles, wheels and tyres and runs all over the place.

Took me weeks to get the garage clean after he repeatedly failed to turn up to do the job himself and he wondered why I didn't fancy a pint with him one night

Hi there, if you are thinking of what colour, my Transit conversion is sprayed 'College Blue'. This turns out to be a brilliant colour when discretely wild camping at night, the colour blends in with woodland or hedges, and helps makes the van unnoticeable.
 
You could try hand painting it with roller and brush.Some good you tube vids on it using rustoleum.Ive seen some of the results up close and they are very good.Prepping is the key to success.

I agree with this, I've done a few panels with this, good results. Rest will get done as and when it needs it.
 
what's all this talk of spending ?my last van.an Iveco,was dark green. I sprayed it with a light grey Dulux Weathershield-cost £27, looked fine

to me anyway
 
Self prep it and take it for a 2 pak paint job , it will cost a lot less if you do most of the work yourself , look on youtube for prepping ideas , its not hard if its just basic clean up and a little body filling , just make sure the final finish is as smooth as a baby bum , do not use a roller !!!.

We plan to do the same with Geraldine,but she will be different shades of Green.
Now should I spray paint parts or Hand paint her ? what's the difference in cost/time/mess?

Spray not brush or roller it looks a lot better finish and it is quicker , spraying the van is the easy part ,its the repair and prep that takes the time , make sure you mask everything up well the slightest gap and spray will get through.
 
as a pro sprayer first allways use a industral two pack epoxy primer zink rich then polyurathan two pack.when prraying use a gravity spray gun with all 3 controls fan air and paint try geting you hand on a binks 630 or awata w71 gun .about 7 to 11 cubic feet compressor plenty of light to see paint shine back as you are painting ,plus try and use a 1.5 to 2 mil flued nozel and no more than about 5% thiners in paint,one coat will do as this can be laid on 10 thu wet drying to about 5 thu,it will not run like car two pack which is piss,a hint you could try sigmathane or jutin clark,dont use international it will run.always were breating aporatus,air feed mask etc,good luck here are a few pics of small jobs i have dun.the life boats were in shipyard harland &wolf the yellow soda was mine which i resprayed crome yellow untill a sod in a transit doing abot 60mph parked in my rear the marron soda was smashed n/side to windsheild which i rebuilt and painted,the susuki 500 gt i built from a basket case for bro in law and resprayed, i akso did a lot of fire places and garden gates for folk,hope you like picys

You obviously know what your talking about , I used to get a good finish with cellulose , I used to wait for good weather and spray it outside, I put it on in fine coats and plenty of them , leave it for a week and mop it up and polish it , used to come up like glass , cheap and cheerful and looked very smart , 2 pak is not for the novice and it is very expensive and can be dangerus, Chris.

£15 squid a litre for industral dont buy car rubbish and its easy compared to cellulose and no polishing required.

I used cellulose because if it run you could work with it , never tried anything else , I did use industrial paint it was cheaper lol.
 
it is the prep thats the hardest ,you hear many say save a few quid and prepare the body work yourself ,no if you dont do a perfect job on the prep then any money spent on the spray job will be a waste of money as the van will look terrible , ok it may shine but it will look bad .if your van isent covered in rust rot or dents then cut back the whole of the body with compound with a buffer or mop ,you can buy them quite cheaply .then attend to any rust area there are lots of products nowadays for the diy er and as you learn to fill the areas that need attention you will learn and get better at it .then try to spray the repaired areas yourself you will soon pick it all up ,and you will be surprised how good a job you will be able to achieve ,and the satisfaction you will get by doing it yourself will be immense .( how easy is it? i can do it and achieve good results) and lots of other people can do the same .its not rocket science and many sprayers make out its difficult, its not

There is a definate knack to it , experience is the key .
