i am still in the planning for my van and well i have another question

now has anyone who has converted a van ever put or seen some one put a chuck wagon back on them because its what i am thinking of doing and i want your thoughts and opinions

Nope. I guess trailer tent or roof tent is closest I've seen.

I don't think it is a brilliant idea, which is probably why it's not been done much, if at all. Problems = cold, damp, waterproofing, draughts, security, loss of walls for storage etc. Sorry to be negative, I just don't see much mileage in it personally.

Would OP like to explain what e means by a "Chuck wagon" back, surely he can't mean a canvas & hoops habitation area? :scared:

you'd have to stay below about 15mph or the canvas would rip I reckon. used to see a few with those corrugated workman's huts bolted on the back. google bow tops or vardos.early lorries had stretched and painted canvas for roofs when shaping was wanted

Could mean a canvas top on a pick up. Plenty of people use thing like this, but more tent camping style the MH.
Plenty venture round the world in LR's etc with similar set ups.

I built something like this across a bus I had,no pics i'm afraid. it made a travelling workshop,so the door, which went across the whole back,was top hung and lifted by 2 gas rams nicked off a dead hatchback to make a roof. inside was drawers and cupboards for my tools,and under them a slide out worktop with a couple of detachable, adjustable legs . sorted !

Ha! My first "camping van" was set up like that (in 1970) a 1962 5cwt Ford Thames (based on the 105E Anglia). Great for cooking on the road, I put a canvas cover between the doors to provide some cover in the wet. there were 2 parafin Primus stoves & a single LPG burner off a free standing calor bottle.

mine has kitchen acrross the back and can get to it from the rear or the front of it if it raining just have to change the water inside as i installed a 6 kg gas bottle and that wouldnt fit in cupboard and mine has lift up rear door but with barn doors you could sling tarp over with some plastic bottles for weight and fill with water so you can empty them when finished to get rid of excess weight or just use bungys

not sure what exactly you're after ,I have built a lot of things and some similar to what you want,i can't see that there's anything specific to having the kitchen across the back. a kitchen is a kitchen wherever it goes and no matter how simple or complex or which way it faces
hang on,just occurred to me, do you mean a box containing sink and cooker hung on the back of the van ?

I know someone who has a bongo with this conversion and it works very well in a small van except when you have left something you want in the chest fridge and have to move everything off the worktop.

If you have a small van, maybe a smaller version of this across the back doors;

Camping kitchen

You could have a fold down door on chains to act as a work surface for a camping stove with a cut out for a washing up bowl. The whole thing could form part of the base for one end of the bed.
