Hi every one I have fiat autosleeper talisman, under the back seats there is a gas pipe and neg. & pos crocodile clips, on the outside there is a gas tap, I have tried to attach photos but get error mesage all the time. can any one tell me what was this used for ?

Thanks in advance.

Hi i don't have a talisman but i would think the exterior gas tap is to connect up your gas barbecue for outdoor cooking and the crocodile clips must be for the leisure battery .
Hope that helps :idea-007:

If that's what the clips are for, and you fit a battery, I would replace the clips with proper terminals. Croc clips can produce sparks. Not a good idea for a compartment where gas pipes run.

here we go again.

Something is missing an "e" :D

I am a new member and don't want to sound rude BUT
I am on a camping website and not writing a thesis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! which I have done twice once for a H.N.D then for a first class degree, I was diagnosed dyslexic when I was 38 in the middle of my degree.

I have been discriminated against and made to feel stupid all my life!!! I am not going to let pompous people with inflated feeling of superiority to get me down again.

Sorry for rant

Thanks deanotic & Firefox,

sorry I did not explain my self correctly, there is nothing attached to pipe it is redundant and the tap is internal.
It looks to me that there was something fitted under back seat box previously.

Thanks again for your time :D:D:D:D

Have you traced where the wires from the croc clips are going and what are they connected to. Are they connected to the main or leisure battery? or to an appliance?

A gas pipe with tap and regulator leading from inside to outside of the van means that it possibly has been connected to a spare bottle for an external barbecue.

I know how you feel I am both number and word dyslexic yet held jobs as a Shop Manager, Bookkeeper and later as an IT teacher. I was never formally diagnosed but it gradually dawned on a teacher friend what my problem was as we both became familiar with computers in the 1970s while I ran a Caravan dealership and storage. Spell checkers have been my salvation and I use iespell ieSpell - Spell Checker add-on for Internet Explorer when using forums etc.

Hi and123wills. I'm sure Haaamster didn't mean any harm, they put a :) ... I guess it looked like the opportunity for a pun. I do it myself too much and things can get fraught on text!

I would have said originally maybe a blown air heater as that requires a supply for the fan, some more wires for the thermostat control and a gas supply, but the croc clips are a mystery as normally there would be spade or circle connectors for an appliance. Is there any sign of ducting or even a grille on the seat box? Can you trace the wires from the croc clips and see where they go to? Is there any evidence of other wiring which has been disconnected and tucked away?

Is there anything that the van is obviously missing? Eg Boiler, fridge, cool box, blown air heater, hot water cylinder, leisure battery etc. If you tell us what appliances you have it may help.

Thanks

Hi I think I've worked out what it is, the crock clips go to a small two pin socket out side of box/seat, the gas pipe must have been cut by previous owners hence the confusion, I've worked out that there was a batery inside box/seats and on exterier of box was gas tap.

The conclusion I have come to is it must have been a gas blown air system.

Hope i have not wasted your time and thanks for your help.:D:D

Maybe a 'clever' bit of repartee but not exactly helping the OP and certainly not the way to welcome someone new on this forum in my book.

The smilie is there but he will not realise the implication.

My grammar is incorrect at times, and I dont have dyslexia as far as I am aware.

Lets not start throwing stones in greenhouses, I was of the opinion we were here to share knowledge and wisdom, not correct others use of the English language.

Back OT, as others have suggested the croc clips seem to be for an add on at some point in the vehicles life.

The gas pipe, should be earthed for safety reasons, earth insulation / resistannce frankly I cant remember.

Are my underpants on the right way round ?

re: undies, can you move into the light?can't quite see from here.

Electrical earthing is done by joining metal objects eg piping, sinks etc to the vehicle chassis so that stray volts have a low resistance route to earth, rather than through your body or via a spark to another metal object.
Static electricity can be discharged through a conductive strap attached to the body and dangling on the ground. Pointy things will also discharge static. Aircraft often have 'static discharge wicks' attached to the rear flying surfaces to deal with it.

Thanks Channa, good point but the problem lies deeper than that sometimes. Some people do not have the humility or the capability to understand other people's experiences, They only need to justify there own existence by showing there superiority in any way they can, in their small world that's on a camping website.

Sorry to go on about it but hamster felt the need to flex his ego again.

I remember those dangly bits of rubber. Can you still buy them?! They were even black with a silver lightning stripe painted on to convince you something was taking place. Car sickness is caused by motion, so I am not sure how they were meant to cure it but they do say a placebo is as good as an actual cure in some instances

Thanks for your input but you seem to be like a bad referee! only reefing one side! sorry you feel my comment sounded superior to you "but if the cap fits".

I left a E out of one word ? sorry if you feel hamster did not have the need to tolerate this, if he had the decency to talk about the topic I submitted I would have laughed, but he just took an opportunity to put all his energy into making a complete stranger look stupid.

I have tried to wright this and not have my working head on so hope you can appreciate it without thinking I am trying to sound superior.

PS in the interest of not alienating myself further this is my last post on the matter.
