Solar panel advice

I had flexi panel on roof of my VW for about 10 years, seemed to work ok throuout that time, but then I didn't get anal on monitoring it, it worked so I left well alone.
I was told constant flexing damages the panel, ours was mounted on pads of 1/8" thick double sided mastic tape on a metal roof.

I did a test comparing the temperature of a flex panel stuck on the roof with a glass panel on a frame. The framed one was quite a lot hotter. Heat built up under solar panels, whereas the metal of the roof carried it away from the flex.
However, it really doesn't matter. When it is hot, there is power to spare. Performance in cold, gloomy weather is what matters. When I did the comparison, both panels had filled their batteries.

The alloy will be as hot as the panel, and grp roof ? ,there are a lot of pros and cons to both & its up to each to find what fits the requirements best.

you say you used double sided mastic tape ,did you mean double sided adhesive tape ,

No, the alloy of the roof surrounding it is nothing like as hot as the panel. I wish I had written the figures down, but I didn't.

The flexible solar panel is on a sort of rubbery mat about 2mm thick. The aluminium roof around where it sits on was a little warmer than the roof further away, but not a lot.

Bear in mind that the sun was shining on all the roof and there is good insulation underneath the roof skin, so none of it was cold.

The greenhouse effect you get with a heated airspace under a semi-translucent glass solar panel is pretty considerable, so unless there is a big air gap, heat will build up. But I don't think it matters. A hot penel is supposedly a less efficient one, but if there is enough sunshine to make the panel hot, you won't really care about efficiency.

Not having a GRP roof, I coudn't answer your question about GRP roof, even if I understood the question.

There is a good two & a half inches under mine plus i have the cable entry gland under it,grp roof.

to fill holes on origiginal fitting

My nuevo has the factory fitted 30 w solar panel fitted with 4 small brackets with one small screw in the roof for each bracket, how would you seal or repair the holes after removing the brackets screws .I intend to fit a 120 solar panel but undecided whether to fit a semi flexible or rigid any advice please .

We always use straterflexi compound from wruth. in white it seal but allows moment never had any complaints or leakage.
