Advice pleas on setting up a small TV. I have Citroen Berlingo micro camper with a leisure battery. I hike a lot and got the car so I can walk during the winter and be more comfortable than in a tent. T In the winter the short days are an issue. I often have an evening pub meal to pass the evening and read on a Kindle. However I have thought about installing a TV but consider that could be theft target; is recording programmes to my Tablet a better bet. I am not too techy but could learn.

I have a tv but rarely use it, if I want to watch anything I usually watch on my iPad via any of the apps(iPlayer, All4 etc.) or Netflix.

of course you need a connection to the internet for this option

With a decent laptop..
You can record (at home) BBC iplayer and more. and do not need Internet whilst travelling..
As posted if and when you have internet more is available but costs data
A laptop will work off 12V with a suitable lead.
AND you can run it off its own battery and recharge in the day whilst you are out and about (assuming Solar)
TV too cumbersome and of limited practical use.
WE had a good AVTEX but rarely used it..Just my thoughts
Tablet is god but I do not think suitable for recording and playback
OR a laptop or 12V dvd player

Laptop more expensive than a tv though if theft risk is a worry.
Our tv has built in rechargeable battery’s that I charge during the day if I use it but that mainly when Caz is with me.

You can just download films etc. from iPlayer or Sky Go onto an iPad and then you can watch them at your leisure without having to be connected to wifi.

I don't think small TVs are much of a target these days.
They really aren't valuable enough 2nd hand and everyone has one.

Ive never found it to be a problem. My iPad has 128 gb with 100 gb free. I usually download about 2 hours worth to watch whilst away.

1 hours worth of download is normally about 800 mb.

I got my cello tv for £25 ,many small tvs are 12v with a step down transformer, all you require a a lead from ebay with cigy plug at one end and other to fit your tv,then a small magmount antenni and bobs your anty.

I have a small 10" TV which I bought when I got the first van years ago. It still works OK and only uses 1 amp to run it. A TV that size can be easily concealed in your Berlingo and you can use a small aerial on a magnetic base stuck on the roof when you use it. Mine also has a USB socket, so I can carry films etc to watch.

Just use my iPad. Can watch online or download and an iPad has a lot more uses than a telly which you might not get a signal in remote spots.

Hi Doddy6, can you confirm if you stay in UK, or do you travel to europe as the type of TV you require differs for the signal received.

In excess of 30 years as a tugger and 5 years as a self built tourer, travelling both far and wide throughout the UK & Europe, during this time I can honestly say we have never found the need for a TV or films in fact anything that can be viewed on a screen!

We listen to music, read, play scrabble or simply soak into the surrounding tranquillity of the heaven sent countryside we happen to be in, almost always washed down with a large glass or two of something special.

A TV is one of the wretched things to get away from when you go touring in your van.

I built up a collection of 40 good films on DVD to watch on the laptop if we found ourselves with time on our hands, so far in many years, we have only managed to watch three & during two I fell asleep.

You're away in the van, fast & free, new territory, so much to do & explore, you don't need the idiot box.

TV or no TV. Some folk reckon the last thing they want is TV, and others enjoy watching the TV. We have an 18.5 inch avtex and we watch using our aerial, online with the mifi, and I have a small satellite dish which I have yet to use. But if I had a camper van, I would probably use a laptop or an iPad and use a mifi with a unlimited data package.
