should I get a TV or record to my Tablet

A TV is one of the wretched things to get away from when you go touring in your van.

I built up a collection of 40 good films on DVD to watch on the laptop if we found ourselves with time on our hands, so far in many years, we have only managed to watch three & during two I fell asleep.

You're away in the van, fast & free, new territory, so much to do & explore, you don't need the idiot box.
Being a widower, travelling on my own and until I recently had both knees replaced unable to walk any distant I find a tv a must have for me in my motorhome and a roof mounted fully auto satellite dish was number one on my accessory wish list when I bought my new vehicle. I enjoy live sport and politics and would sooner be out in my motorhome watching tv as sat at home watching the same 4 walls.
Each to their own, idiot box ? not as far as I’m concerned.

It would help the OP if he considers his requirements
A) Live TV
B) recorded TV/ Youtube BBC iplayer etc
C) likelihood of a good signal
D) other entertainment DVDs or Music
Too much time in a pub will decimate the finances
E) Data allowance for some of the above

We use a mixture, films recorded on USB stick, tablet or laptop live TV, streaming or recorded from iPlayer and Netflix. Tend to use mainly 10" tablet now as laptop is more cumbersome and we got a gooseneck holder which the tablet fits into and makes watching easy. But these combinations give us versatility, when no internet signal, we use recorded. Or when in Europe, it saves using internet if no wifi available. Often just read or look at views, but there are times when it is pleasant just to watch something. Nice to have the option without taking up space which is why we decided against a TV.

There are various Apple and Android TV tuners for sale on Amazon. This may be a solution for live TV viewing on a tablet without any monthly cost. Three do have reasonable unlimited data plans for mobile internet modems if this is the preferred route. You can of course do a lot more than watch TV with internet access.

The OP doesnt say if the kindle is his tablet but I would just see if there is an iPlayer app for it and download some programs to watch offline. Or if you have a good data allowance on your phone or maybe unlimited data you could use it as a hot spot and stream stuff onto the tablet from there.

Im a big fan of watching stuff on the laptop rather than the TV though (we have both). Live TV is generally crap so I download box set series and the odd film for long trips. I have a hard drive with about 600gb of stuff on it from 2017. Still not watched it all.

One of the guys in our Morocco group who do naughty things on the internet, like jailbreaking firesticks etc. told me to bring a exterior hard drive down with me.
Which I did & he loaded many films & boxed sets on it, I haven't had time to watch a thing yet.
In fact, I don't even know how to operate it!
