Security

I feel that extra locks on the outside give the impression that there must be something worth nicking inside. 🤔
And many of them can only be locked from outside, so they indicate an unattended vehicle.
In my opinion, removing such a lock will increase security.

When thinking about vehicle security, you are better to start by thinking about what you are trying to be secure from:
1. Accidental or malicious damage to the vehicle.
2. Damage caused by break-in attempts, whether or not successful.
3. Theft of valuables from the vehicle
4. Theft of parts of the vehicle.
5. Theft of the vehicle.
6. Recovery of the vehicle after it is stolen
7. Catching the thief.
The reality is that each of these concerns probably has a different best measure.

When choosing the measures, think about how they will impinge on your everyday use of the vehicle:
1. Locks and clamps can be a pain to have to fit and remove for each journey.
2. Heavy metal security hardware could do you a lot of damage in the event of an accident.
3. Immobilisers are one more thing that can go wrong. Been there, got the t-shirt.
4. Alarms only annoy people nearby. They don't usually do any good.
5. You might not want your van back after it has been stolen and abused.

I do want my van back so use a decent tracker. Not much else apart from factory fit mobiliser/alarm though. Mine is an old van so less likely to be targeted probably plus I rarely park up in populated places except when stocking up with food.

Do what makes you happy, as previously said by Caz, if they want it they will take it.

Most vans have plastic windows that can be opened in a breath. You are wasting your time adding extra locks etc to doors. It would take me longer to climb through the window than to open it. As for protecting valuables and documents inside, as said already cheap safes are not worth a toss especially the electronic type.

Yours is a serious question and if you own a lovely VW it must be very worrying.

My own precautions are: leave the curtains open so they can see there is nothing to pinch, no tv, no microwave, no tech!!
The van itself is old, a bit flaky and now has a bashed door: resale value minimum.
I think I will be OK.

As we found out in January upon return to our MH from a French supermarket near Calais and found two migrants attempting to hide inside. I didn't put the alarm on as we were just nipping in for a couple of items! Normally the central ultrasonic sensor would have triggered and no doubt they would have fled. We have set the alarm every time since then regardless. Thinking about it, it would be very easy to add sensors to the windows as ours has a wireless alarm.
