sea life Scarborough

Pisses me off that these 'local residents' always seem to believe that they should own the f*****g seaside! Just because they live there, why should they have the say about who is allowed to use what is surely part of all our heritage? If they don't like the hoards of inlanders who make the trip to the coast, just to be ripped off by the overpricing merchants they should go live somewhere else & stop playing 'seaside god"
Incidentally, if anyone wants to park in my street for as long as they want feel free!

Pontefract for as long as they want??

An hour would be plenty ..... ;-)

The unwritten agreement was that you could park up at night with the emphasis on PARK but move off through the day so the carpark was free for the sea life visitors but as usual people abuse it and are staying all day and night and are now putting out awnings and tables chairs and bbqs it was only a matter of time that it would be stopped , watch this space.

We've stopped there many times Annie and never seen any BBQ, awning out or table and chairs sat out, I have seen it busy though and I for one would not park on the sea end of the car park as its too steep and would be a pain in the arse too level up. I've also always paid for my parking unlike some of the Folks I see arriving at night then leaving at the crack of dawn

Maybe thread should be retitled pond life Scarborough.

Korky.

Don’t think they’d put a hight barrier here as coaches come and go all day. Decent spot for one night I remember speaking to an older couple who came from one of the Yorkshire city’s saying they came out and parked in that car park nearly every weekend why not just buy a static caravan rather than park in the same old car park every weekend.

Rat

So Mr lythgoe visits scalby Mills public House in the evening to declare it empty and take an early morning photo of the car park to corroborate his accusation of no visits to the pub and gives his local address as a sbc taxpayer, and a motorhomer himself,he seems to be preemting the argument against,l smell a rat, theirs more to Mr lythgoe than meets the eye.

There is always an underlying ulterior motive to all these anti motorhome stories but some of the motorhoming community keep giving them the bullets to fire .

Last time I stopped there was a group that were partying on the Saturday from early evening until midnight they had the promenade in front of their vans blocked with tables chairs they even had a gazebo up and people were struggling to get round them obviously some kind of meeting of friends they were a very loud and boisterous group a bit like WCers but seriously it wasn’t good.

Personally l think this guy's firing blank's, it just seems to hot on the heels of the Whitby episode to be real,l smell a rat.

I think the man just likes to have a moan, looking at the photo he has taken of the car park there are plenty empty spaces left, so if he couldn’t manage to park then maybe driving lessons are needed, and as for saying if it were gypsies the council would have them moved on, but this would be after a week and after they had filled the car park with rubbish.
Where as most motorhomes will probably only stay for one night and will leave with their rubbish.
And why the article in the first place just because of one person that needs to get a life makes a complaint

Quite agree Travellers would leave behind piles of rubbish mounds of earth old roof tiles left over from a botch job etc and this would be after a month of occupation.,then cost the taxpayer HIM included a fortune in ratepayers money to clear the crap.I agree 30 is over the top but this wouldnt be every night probably 15 maximum. We go there regularly for a night stopover and haver NEVER seen 30 motorhomes parked up.He says he is a motorhome owner but I bet he loves to go on regimental sites probably a Caravan and Motorhome club owner who likes to pay extortionate site fees being a moaner and groaner. He hasnt helped our cause.Maybe he works for Whitby council...

Yes the guy is associating motorhomers with traveling businesses who are percieved as gypsies to give more clout to his point.l smell a rat.

Just like France on some of the paid aires then :mad2:

So many times we`ve seen the mass exodus at approx 08.00 - 08.30 before the person comes round at approx 09.00 to collect the money :scared:

We too have watched this many times, it seems to be a game for the French, as it is the only time they get up so early.

As to the guy complaining about the sea life centre, it might be a case of not on my doorstep, as looking on google earth the road he lives on comes down to the sea life centre.

gratifying that so far most have agreed that this sort of thing is bad - odd that a while back when we were discussing 50+ motorhomes parked in Whitby most seemed to think that it was OK!

I do not agree how ever that if SBC had a more liberal policy about M/h parking that the same 30 M/h would just spread them about the town and disappear into the background given the slightest whiff of encouragement those 30 M/hs would become 60, 100 or more!

No doubt the usual suspects will be along shortly demanding their 'human rights' and free motorhome parking for all and to hell with teh vast majority in this country who dont own a motorhome

First let me make my feelings clear.
I do support much of the original post, that level of parking is totally unacceptable and something does need to be done to prevent it.

But through proper management it is possible to limit the amount of Motorhomes in any area be it Scarborough, Whitby or up here in Musselburgh. The SBC could have provided places only for Motorhomes and banned Motorhome parking outside these parking places, thus controlling the level and location of such parking in the area. But they chose like so many to use their powers to ban completely Motorhome parking, which is wrong in my honest opinion.

As for your perogative term “the usual suspects” well that could be levelled at you and others who seem to think that your version of “wild camping” should be the only version on offer. I prefer rural locations myself, but I have also enjoyed time in such places, and some on here have a preference for more urban locations. They deserve better treatment, fairer treatment. Yes there are some idiots, but there indiscretions should not affect what happens to the vast majority who do behave responsibly. And in some instances these indiscretions are bourne out of ignorance, not a blatant disrespect for local communities.

Also far worse things than putting out a deck chair or an awning happen within these car parks yet nothing seems to be done to deal with such anti social behaviour. As usual it’s the easy targets that are dealt with by over zealous councils.

sorry

Where are all the rallies he mentions? At this time of year most sites are closed and few clubs are holding rallies. Both the big clubs have large sites near Scarborough and both are closed. This man has done a disservice to our pastime. When there are no sites open he should be trying to add to facilities not trashing the people who were there.

it is abuce the car parks are for locals to or not for 30, so bring it on, i dont want it but keep it up and 5 if we get it, or none,pj

A couple of points

1 Mr. Lythgoe lives on High Mill Drive, according to the Scarborough News. The road down to the sea life centre is the Scalby Mills Road. Its the opposite side of the road to Whitby.
2 If you scroll down to the last page (Newby Division) on this link: https://www.scarborough.gov.uk/sites/scarborough.gov.uk/files/files/Notice-Of-Poll-NYCC-2017.pdf
there is a William Lythgoe as an assentor for the GREEN PARTY!!!! and we all know how they feel about vehicles!

As has been said previously rat, smell, I.

Sorry, is this a coded message?

P.S. I'm not poking fun at the misspelling of abuse, I don't understand the rest of the sentence.

According to Parkopedia there are 170 spaces in that car park so even if 31 motorhomes are present in a grim mid November day and maybe take up two spots thats still over 100 spaces for cars. The fact that its free this time of year suggests that there isnt much demand anyway. Between March and October however a 24 hour ticket is £9 presume a motorhome will probably require two. May as well use a campsite.

Scarborough Borough Council - Car Park

I dont see what the fuss is all about to be honest. I also wonder if "the Complainer" is genuine.

Cant say I would want to spend more than a quick overnight there to be honest so why anyone would want to park up for days on end is beyond me. It can only be to save money and in which case presumably that would be only in Winter. Why not just let them get on with it? They are out of the way and off the main car parks in Scarborough where the council didnt want them. Maybe they wont be happy until motorhomes are just banned full stop from the entire area.

I have stayed here 3 times.

One night was peaceful but the smell from the adjacent sewage interceptor was horrible.

One night was marred by two boy racers turning the car park into a Drag strip at 2 am.

One night 4 youths started a game of football, again at 2 am.

I don't use it anymore.
