just read this, so no doubt this will follow Whitby.

Scarborough man’s fury at “inconsiderate” motor home owners

Weird I was there in the summer and there were only 7 Motorhomes there.

What’s required are possibly 6-8 Motorhome parking places, with Motorhomes not being allowed to park elsewhere within the car park. I have to agree with this man I feel he is making reasonable points here.

But I have no doubt we will get the usual response, barriers and signage.

Perhaps if the motorhomes were moved on the local yoof can congregate there and do a few burn outs and donuts leave a few Nurger King wrappers as calling cards,Mr Lythgow needs to be careful what he wishes for

The local sea life centre adjacent was always tolerant of motorhomes unpaid security, Incidentally if numbers are to be restricted 5 is the legal limit for cls so that would seem a logical benchmark

The unwritten agreement was that you could park up at night with the emphasis on PARK but move off through the day so the carpark was free for the sea life visitors but as usual people abuse it and are staying all day and night and are now putting out awnings and tables chairs and bbqs it was only a matter of time that it would be stopped , watch this space.

Motorhomers eh ................... give them an inch and .................. We are our own worst enemy :mad2:

We'd never park in a car park full of motorhomes like that.

I guess that's why we wild camp in the first place, we're antisocial beggars, who just want to be on our own in the middle of nowhere.

When we go to a cafe/restaurant we always go to the far end where there is nobody else, same with a car park. Then someone arrives, looks around and promptly comes over and sits/parks next to us! We alway mutter to ourselve "why! The place is empty, so why come and sit right next to us!"

I know, I know - miserable b***ers!

Totals agree. That’s freeloading not wild camping. If you want to park up next to another half dozen vans use a site. My wife and I also like our own space (antisocial) but seem to be a magnet for other vans and will move when another van parks to close. We call them “Space Invaders”.

Why motorhomers want to stop in Scarborough is beyond me. SBCs decision to ban motorhome from overnighting in most places has had the effect of concentrating them in one or two carparks. Where as nobody really notices 30 vans spread out around the town, coral them all in one small carpark then everyone notices and complains.
In reality councils such as SBC should ban motorhomes from busy carparks during the day, say 8am to 8pm, but allow them to overnight.

Where are all the rallies he mentions? At this time of year most sites are closed and few clubs are holding rallies. Both the big clubs have large sites near Scarborough and both are closed. This man has done a disservice to our pastime. When there are no sites open he should be trying to add to facilities not trashing the people who were there.

sorry

sorry 5 is ok but 30 some may be now none. ok for some, i would not stop, well, pj

I think the man just likes to have a moan, looking at the photo he has taken of the car park there are plenty empty spaces left, so if he couldn’t manage to park then maybe driving lessons are needed, and as for saying if it were gypsies the council would have them moved on, but this would be after a week and after they had filled the car park with rubbish.
Where as most motorhomes will probably only stay for one night and will leave with their rubbish.
And why the article in the first place just because of one person that needs to get a life makes a complaint

Seen this happen many, many times and have spoken to the motorhomers who say ....................

Yeah it`s great, been here nearly a week now  the thick buggers do not know or care the damage they are doing :mad2:

Next thing is the height barriers will go up so we won`t even be able to get in to have a brew :mad2:

They`ll just move on and fooooooook up somewhere else :mad2:

When I spoke with folks from sea life centre they had in the conversation I was having with them when visiting it suits them for motorhomes to be there at night as it has more or less reduced damage etc to the centre itself ,always moved b4 the ticket started in the morning and we always tuck into hillside or as near to it and use the inn on the bend ,nice folks in there as well

And look at this from a national perspective.
As we lose carpark after carpark and the number of motorhomes increases each year it will only get worse.

The SBC should have limited the amount of motorhomes at each carpark, that would have prevented this problem.
But by closing them off to us has resulted in this situation.

Inadvertenly one reason an aire type arrangement never passed the planning stage in Scarborough, it in my opinion had two disadvantages

Firstly they wanted to locate it in Seamer miles away form the attractions people allegedly spend money on, But more important IMHO with their mentality would have stopped all other places in the town using an aire as an excuse, and for sure you would get the 40 or so vans herding together

SBC are probably no worse than other councils on they have a blinkered approach and are self appointed tourist prevention officers.

gratifying that so far most have agreed that this sort of thing is bad - odd that a while back when we were discussing 50+ motorhomes parked in Whitby most seemed to think that it was OK!

I do not agree how ever that if SBC had a more liberal policy about M/h parking that the same 30 M/h would just spread them about the town and disappear into the background given the slightest whiff of encouragement those 30 M/hs would become 60, 100 or more!

No doubt the usual suspects will be along shortly demanding their 'human rights' and free motorhome parking for all and to hell with teh vast majority in this country who dont own a motorhome

Yes I had the same conversation with the security that there breaking by youths and teenagers having a couple of shandies and then climbing the fence and frightening the seals have now stopped but I was stopping off there one night on route north and there was a group of MH having a party completely blocking the promenade with gazebos tables chairs bbqs and they had a bar set up on the wall what must the pub have thought only about 2/300 yds away and you can get a pint there and bring it back to your van as long as you return your glass or take your own and decant.

Don't remember anybody saying that

Pisses me off that these 'local residents' always seem to believe that they should own the f*****g seaside! Just because they live there, why should they have the say about who is allowed to use what is surely part of all our heritage? If they don't like the hoards of inlanders who make the trip to the coast, just to be ripped off by the overpricing merchants they should go live somewhere else & stop playing 'seaside god"
Incidentally, if anyone wants to park in my street for as long as they want feel free!
