Yes - the files are KML for Google Earth, and files for TomTom, Garmin, Navigon etc satnavs ...

Brand new to all this - just joined and going to upgrade to full membership to take advantage of POI - need to buy a sat nav - any clues which one to go for??
many thanks

I have a Garmin nuvi 760 , 2yrs old brilliant bit of kit . I also have a Tom Tom XL which was of similar value at the time .I find the mapping and guidance on the Garmin far better , and with less chance of being taken down a farm track by mistake .

Satnavs

Hi seesa,

Try a company called satnaveasy, very keen on prices. I have both a TomTom and a Garmin, and it's sort of swings & roundabouts, TomTom does things the Garmin does'nt, and vice-versa. Stay away from cheapo units, you really do get what you pay for, and look for units using the Navstar mapping system. 'Text to Speech' is a very handy extra, it will read out street names, road numbers etc. We've all turned down the wrong road at some stage, when the junctions are close to each other! text to speech makes it a lot easier. If you are going to mainland Europe, buy one with UK & EU already installed, the maps are not cheap to buy and install at a later date. Hope this helps a bit. B

thanks for all the help and advice.... I'm afraid I'm a bit girly (sorry ladies) when it comes to technical stuff....and hubby worse than me!!!
Had our first trip to derbyshire last weekend and definately hooked on life on the road now - did get a bit lost though so must get a satnav soon!!
