Given the choice wouldn't a relatively young Englishman with kids pick Australia over Spain? No language difficulties (ok just an accent problem to get over!). Reasonable employment prospects, (Spanish youth unemployment figures are dire). As for sunshine just start at the Aussie Gold Coast, better weather than the Spanish Costas. Higher standard of living and geographically positioned in the world where it's all going to happen.... probably.

why not stay here in the uk. you can go almost anywhere from here. many have been and come back from oz etc lots have gone to spain etc and come back. its ok here . later as the kids grow up you can winter away and come back here in the summer .its a great life.

we looked into auz a few years ago but neather of us having skils it was going to be very hard for us to do so
reson for spain is i have been going there for about 20 years now and if you do have a problem and need to get back to the uk its only a 2 hour flight and only £100 or so from auz 24 hours and from about £1000

as for work i will not be going looking for work

To retire young, I believe it takes planning and sacrifice from an early age, unless like someone else said and you have 'loads of money'. As Alan says above this is also an option, one that I may well consider. I've found that much of Europe is busy, too busy for me as I like quiet roads and a quiet life. I could be tempted to do extended road trips in the USA, returning to the UK for our summers and go back to the southern states for our winters. Then at some point a decision will be made as to where we really should be.
Another love of mine is the 'good life' and having a small holding or homestead with better all round weather is also very tempting to me ...

Cheers

Yes but that similarly applies to people that come to the UK, find it doesn't live up to expectations, then return whence they came. We are talking here about people that would like to find out if somewhere else may be better for them than the UK it may just be possible you know!
You can only find out if you go.
Living in another country is not quite the same thing as going on holidays or so called winter retirement trips, I should know or at least hope I know....being an Aussie citizen, NZ citizen, British National and Gibraltar National, and also wintering in Spain etc

Hard work boys i done that for the first 4 years i was here fun to start with but every day there is some thing needs doing no days swimming or fishing until you set it all up that took me nearly 3 years to do.:D

If you can, and you have enough for the future, do it while you have your health....a lot of people wish to but can't afford to....how many people do you know who have died before thay can retire, or died with a few weeks of retiring after working for perhaps 50 years...or those who have held off only to have their partner die and all their plans gone?

If you can retire just do it and count yourself very very fortunate indeed.

As i said before at first it will be hard for your son but i spoke to my friend he said he was a nightmare for 3 weeks now he comes out of school and straight round his mates house stay just outside the coast and you will be fine. My friends son don,t even want to go back to the UK with them he is staying at his mates house his mate is Spanish and they get on fine.

I have retired many years ago. Just make sure you Boss doesn't know about it....:hammer:

I would say go for it!
To retire (or attempt to retire) at 30 could be seen as a bit early...but if things don't go too well in your early retirement then you could always (maybe) start working again because you are so young. If you leave it till your 50, then you may find looking for a job later a bit of a problem...so I say have a go whilst you are still young!

HI MATT .if you go from conil to cabo trafalgar following tight to the sea you probably will meet several uk surfers ,its a favourite area for surfers.there are also quite afew live around canos de meca. also right the way own to tarifa .its a winter destination for many . get out there with your van and enjoy it . interesting roman ruins in bolonia as well to see, plus thousands of windmills and solar panels .i think they must grow there .hee hee.

Is it very hilly as our van dont like steep hills?
Are there many places to wild and where can you get water?
In the winter is it posible to get coat or fire wood?
Never been to spain in a van.
I know in Italy its easy to get water and not unusual to see someone at a local fountain with a water can.

thanks.

the best way to retire young is to marry into money

That's a good point mitzimad....

If there are any wealthy, single, lady members here who are looking for a meaningful relationship with a decent, honourable gentleman, please get in touch (and please attach a recent photo and/or bank statement).:heart::heart:

I am now 59 and I retired when I was 48 due to ill health I was lucky that my wife and I owened a medium sizes specialist cleaning company that we sold and we are able to live on the funds plus a private pension, Now when I was at work I knew what I was doing every day and every thing was planned but now retired that is when the problems start What to do? should I go away for a week or should I make it two should I have a lay in or get up there are more problems to being retired than you think.
Mind you I could never go back to work now because I do not have the time.
Best regards
