I've just got home from 9 weeks travelling from Scotland, through France, to Spain and back. Lets just say the trip was not without incident and now I need replacement parts and repairs!

I normally order parts for delivery from EmmBee Motorhomes in Heywood, Lancashire but when they checked, some parts are no longer available from Burstner. I am looking for a replacement panel for over a wheelarch, and the folding metal steps for accessing the rear bed.

As the parts are not available from Burstner, can anyone suggest anywhere else I could try? Or is there such a thing as a motorhome breakers yard for second hand parts?

That's my first cry for help. The second is I now have a hole about the size of a dinner plate on the side of my motorhome where the outer skin has peeled open like a Frey Bentos pie! Emmbee Motorhomes said it would cost a fortune to replace the whole panel and recommended I should get it filled and painted by a good body shop, (who may also be able to fix the broken panel over the wheelarch). I live in West Lothian, Scotland. Can anyone recommend anyone for my bodywork repairs.

Thanks in advance.

These guys are apparently very good but not close to you , although I would travel personally to get it done right first time .
Full member used them for a repair and was well pleased.
Motor Home Bumpers – Bumper Accident Repairs

Thanks for the suggestion. They look exactly what I need.

Unfortunately it took me 11 hours just to drive from Dover to Bury on Tuesday so I couldn't face the thought of going that far south again so soon. Hopefully I will find something similar in Scotland.

Try a boatyard

Or somebody who can "Do Fibre Glass" maybe "Runnach" Or "The Laird" know of someone.

We lost (it fell off on M-Way) 1 wheelarch/spat..So I took the other one off to use as a template.

So I got a pair made out of Fibreglass and fitted more securely

This was done in Kent so no direct help I know

Similar goes for the hole
Either fibreglass or a panel of "Real Plastic" or Aluminium...
OK never perfect but maybe good enough and "only you will know"

Take the panel off the opposite side of the van and send it to the repair company that Charlie linked to. Tell them you need a mirror image making.

Thanks for the suggestions. They are much appreciated.

I have had quotes for £12,000+ which would have involved dismantling and rebuilding most of the van to replace the complete panel that has a relatively small hole in it(!!), £2,000 to cut out and replace a smaller area but in such a way as to hide the work, and £300 to patch the hole with aluminium.

I'm going with the patch. It might not be as perfect as the other options, but I can live with it.

Thanks again for the replies and suggestions.

If Emm Bee could get the parts I would not let them near my van , they are lying rip off merchants ( a long story but they cost me £1200 with their lies and shitty warranty )

Another dealer one cannot trust so thank you for the heads up!

Hi, I got the whole side of my motorhome resprayed following a debate with my gatepost which gouged into the plywood. Grant, the manager at the workshop at Knowepark arranged this with someone they use for accident repairs - well pleased, probably better than new! Also advised me on a family run commercial garage they also use in Stoneyburn - had to get a new salve cylinder (silly thing is in the bellhousing so box out) and they put in a new clutch at my request. Full service and MOT. For all that bill was at least £400 cheaper than Fiat main dealer wanted just to do the slave. They have commercial ramps and can wheech your mh up high. Certainly recommend them all and will be a repeat customer for sure. I live in East Lothian. Bob

Sorry to hear you've had a bad experience at EmmBee. I find them very helpful but I've only ever used them to order parts.

RCA Garage - very good. Not sure who repaired the wood and did the respray but Grant at Knowepark would be able to tell you. Mine was an insurance job so don't know the cost. The skirt sill thingy took about 6 months to come from Chausson but I was able to use vehicle as it was just cracked. Good thing that came out of it was I asked them not to refit the rather old fashioned graphics (it's a 2009). I've destickered the other side and actually quite like it without graphics. Maybe if I ever sell it (unlikely) I'll replace them with something modern. Bob.

I ended up at Swinton Motorhome Repairs on the east side of Glasgow, just off the M8. They were able to cut out the damaged section and replace it with an aluminium panel. They have done a really good job of "hiding" the repair. It looks great and they only charged £300.

Thank you to everyone for your suggestions and contributions.

Good to hear that. Also another repair place to know about up here in backwater Scotland. Bob
