Redex petrol and diesel.

Hi Gang 😊,
I have to say I actually considered using some sort of Fuel Additive on in ‘Boxys’ Diesel a few months back when I was having ALL SORTS of Sluggish, No Power, No Acceleration & PROPER BLACK Particulates & Thick Soot come out of The Exhaust for about a month.
Got really Fed up with it to be honest.
So I switched from using ‘Supermarket’ & Standard Fuel 8 put about 6 or 7 Tank fulls of the high range Diesel from BP & Shell whenever I filled up, Then done LOTS of Motorway & ‘A’ Road Driving for about 1000 miles & when on Hills dropped it down Gears to keep Revs up for longer than I should in a ‘Drive it like I Stole it Sxit or Bust’ Attitude.
Boxy has ran Great ever since, & Still is 🤷🏻‍♂️.
& I STILL use the Higher ‘Value’ Diesel Fuels, I get around an Average of 25MPG (Boxy is 4500Kg), & No Carbon Or Soot Out the Exhaust.

But I HAVE seen all sorts of ‘Stuff’ come out of the Exhaust of OTHER vehicles when using these additives, So I’m guessing it’s doing ‘Some’ good 🤷🏻‍♂️. Otherwise what IS that crap 🤔

I think that may be the biggest culprit being vans run at low revs / speeds for too long and got being given a damn good thrashing .😁

Agree with nesting zombie on the fuel grade theory. When I passed my saab to my son he wouldn't put supermarket fuel in and dpf stopped misbehaving. I was commuting 80 miles round trip so tended to buy cheapest diesel probably with free "water additive"at a superstore (won't name them but 4 letters beginning with A).

Diesel is an oil, no idea why you would put oil in your oil.
Strange as it may seem, cooking oil cleans diesel lines pumps and injectors, many folk who changed to full bio will tell you about the crap they found in the fuel filter after about 500 miles.
All the newish engines with sensors require a good thrashing, which by the way makes a mockery out of the so called cleaner engines.

my diesel nissan xtrail struggled to pass last years mot on emissions....was in today for this years, its been doing regular 150 mile runs and ive been feeding it redex. mot tester reckoned he couldnt see the machine to read the numbers....failed on corrosion aswell..an a few other odds an sods like brakes and wipers..i was lookin forward to seeing 200k coming up on the odometer next month. sold it for pound notes on the way home

So you were not looking after it, twenty lashes me lad and all night tied to the yard arm. 😂

He probably drives a bit faster and accelerates the car harder than you did as that’s what sons do. Driving like Miss Daisy ain’t no good for modern diesels.

Ha, miss daisy is me now to a tee but when commuting 80 miles a day the car got a good blast until I hit the city drudge!
Work from home now and scary how few miles the fleet of future classic “bangers” are doing between mots!

Electric would be best for you.

with the advent of untracable unfixable electronic faults 10k cars are just as likely to breakdown as sub 1k bangers. best to buy a banger spend nowt except what gets it through the mot , our 1300 quid berlingo has been with us 9 years, the 300 quid pug 206 4 years, 1300quid xtrail lasted 4 years (did put a set of new tyres on it , the 900 quid iveco van has just aced its 4th mot.
about all i do is keep eye on the tyres and oil and water levels. an then fix anything vital that breaks.

I got 15 years and 314.000 miles out of a £10 skoda, beat that. ;)
My old boy used to buy new cars every 18mt or 2 years wasting money, the last car before he died was 6/7 years old as he new it would be the last, it had only 6.000 miles on it as all he did was collect pension and tesco across the road, fecken daft.

£2 a bottle at Tesco if you have a club card.

I know some say it is a waste of money but I am 100% certain our petrol car runs smoother on it. Can't say for certain about the MH but a quid's worth of Redex every full tank of diesel, I'll just carry on adding it.
Best stuff is industrial strength cleaner, bg44, it will make all engines likes the day they were born, once a year, OK its 20 quid a tin, but will makes even the turbo like new
