Rats

Definitely get a trap baited with either peanut butter, chocolate spread or bacon rind. They will chew through anything just to see what is in it. Hope you get rid quickly

We had a live Houdini mouse in the house about 3 weeks ago, brought in by the neighbour's cat.

The mouse had escaped the cat and squeezed underneath the kitchen cupboards (the kickboards are sealed in so not easy to get at without dismantling).

Caught sight of him wandering around the kitchen floor a few times the day after, but he kept vanishing back underneath the cupboards.
I went out and bought 2 humane traps which we baited with cheese & chocolate.

The little bugha managed to fill his belly and empty both traps of all bait over 2 days before one of them finally caught it!
Each trap had been sprung about 4 times and the food all gorn

How it managed to do that we will never know.

I guess rodents learn to be resourceful being low down in the food chain? ;)

I have become good at catching them two at a time , but these are only babies, the adult rats are a bit too clever for that,

Being a Whippet owner, we don't have Rat problems. Not for long anyhow. :D

Haha, yip, 4 whippets in our van means Roland knows he’s up against it should he try and jump aboard..... each to their own on how to deal with things, but never nowt wrong with nature taking its course.
Hope I haven’t offended anyone by saying don’t use sticky boards, but I’ve seen first hand the fearful look in the most efficient and effective recycling machine on this planet (Rat) stuck to them boards and the sight has never left my minds eye, horrific sight, and being someone who believes in Mother Nature I don’t like killing anything, unless it’s absolutely necessary to prevent it suffering.

Hi. We used to travel with 4 Whippets (and 2 Pugs). Unfortunately 3 Whips and 1 Pug are now in doggy Heaven. We took on 2 rescue Whippets last September which were a bit of a nightmare with their behaviour. Over the Winter we have turned them into friendly and sociable dogs again, ready for this years adventures in the van. :)

Welcome to the forum.

Well I put down 2 traps with chocolate spread. One went off in the night and I thought great! But was very disappointed to find he had evaded the blow. I have found the home where he has chewed his way in behind the bumper in the corner of the floor coming up under the bathroom. He has already chewed through the wiring for the the top brake light and a few kitchen gadgets and also shredding the insolation material behind the cooker. I haven’t heard him yet tonight so again praying he has cleared off.

How did you get on last night, any signs of activity ?

All quiet last night so hopefully he’s gone. Now to repair the hole in the floor where he came in and the brake light. Lesson learned - do not park with the overhang over a verge as it makes ground level that much closer to the bottom of the van. Talking of dogs, we have two Yorkshire terriers and they did not make any noise at all. I am yet again sacking them, they definitely are not earning their keep. I am now at the GP as I had a fever the other night and am a little worried it may be to do with this. Getting the appointment this morning is another whole story in itself!

If you handle any rat traps glue boards or rat bait wear disposable gloves, otherwise you leave your human scent on the things and rodents will be suspicious of the smells.

Rats also will hoard blocks of bait and just because bait is moving the rats might not be eating all of it,

but storing it away,

after a week stop putting anymore bait down for a few days and see how you get on.

Good luck at the doctors !

Blimey! :(

Let us know how you get on, it might just be one of the seasonal bugs going round? Not nice either, but not as bad as the possible alternative...

Fingers crossed for your doctor's appointment - that's if you can manage to get one! :mad2:

I have had penicillin prescribed and blood test on Wednesday, better safe than sorry. I had a fever in the night although no other symptoms, no rash or pains that are new but I didn’t want to hang around with this. Hopefully it will be nothing. I am going to be awash with antibiotics as I am already on a 2 month course

I’ve forgotten how to post videos, so you’ll have to dig it out yourself.
If you need cheering up,try this.
