I appear to have picked up a none paying passenger yesterday!! Heard noises late yesterday evening and over night. This morning the tell tail signs have been left all around, droppings, so we know he is here. Definitely not a mouse. Any ideas how to get him out fast before any damage has occurred. The van is a Hymer, not that that makes much of a difference and we are full timing

Get a trap set pronto, i.e. today, as near as poss to where you think he is!

Are you parked up somewhere for a long time, or has this just happened?

If it's definitely a rat you need to be very careful (Weil's disease etc.)

Pretty sure we only just picked him up as there has not been a sound and more importantly no signs before. This morning so far half a dozen poops left about and I’ve just noticed a stick of chewing gum has been eaten

Try the chewing gum as bait in a trap.

Roland will think it's safe to eat - then BAM!

Glue boards

or rat traps,

with rat bait you have some risk of the thing dying and smelling inside the van, but if that's what you have to do go for it.

With rat bait I have seen the coloured wee that they do everywhere.

And as Marie says, Weil's disease is a severe form of leptospirosis. This is a type of bacterial infection. It's caused by Leptospira bacteria. You can contract it if you come into contact with the urine, blood, or tissue of animals or rodents that are infected with the bacteria.

FLU LIKE SYMPTOMS !

I had one fair sized one drag all sorts of foraged Snacks aboard then sat quite happily on top The Nests Main Starting Battery in safety while having a munch.

Well I had to put a stop to that, so I put up a sign saying
Free for 10 minutes then
‘YOUR FURY LITTLE ARSE IS FAIR GAME TO ZOMBIES’

Seemed to have done the trick,,,,As I said Rats ain’t good eating, Trust me !

Ferrets are a good idea! Can't nip down to the shops and buy one.... well, you can, but not very practical lol ;)

If it wasn't for the fact that it's a motorhome I would have suggested a good old Jack Russell, they're little belters at ratting :)

Are rats nocturnal as there is no sounds at all this morning so hoping he has cleared off rather than sleeping in a nice safe corner somewhere. I have looked under all the lockers and bathroom, can see his trail but no dropping there

Rat's are very intelligent creatures and can be trained like dogs.

I had a pet rat once called Dave. He used to come down the pub with me and sit on my shoulder all night and people would feed him with whatever snacks they were having. Never once bought a round though. Very clean creatures too, probably very different to the wild versions.

Problem is, they only live about 2-3 years or so, so by the time you have them trained to fetch sticks, collect the morning papers, drive a car etc. They snuff it! :(

Yes rats are nocturnal, they prefer to run along narrow channels and don't like being in open spaces and WILL hide their droppings if being hunted.

How did they get in

Were you overnighting in Westmister ?
But seriously I hope you manage to solve the problem..

maybe go to europe after ****** and the customs will find them !!!!:goodluck::lol-049::banana:

We had mice in the house which we caught humane traps baited with peanut butter. We then released them at the bottom of the garden. When we had caught about 20 we called a professional in.

He told us that we probably had only caught a couple and that they had returned. Mice will return unless you take them over a mile away!
He also told us that the best bait for mice and rats is peanut butter, but he was no longer allowed to use it in case anyone in the house had an allergy. However there was nothing to stop us rebaiting the trap with peanut butter after he left.

He caught and disposed of three mice, and the problem ended.

As for point of entry, if you can get a pencil through a gap then it is large enough for a mouse or smallish rat to get in!

Or

Put a bottle of coke and a walking stick in for the rat,the customs will have him for using cokecane.:lol-049::lol-049::lol-049::lol-049:

Just keep calling Basil (Fawlty Towers) and have a tin of biscuits to hand !

Offer strong liquor and maybe he will get "P155ed as a CAT" No spell check

Or borrow a cat, we had mice in the cellar recently, next doors cat got locked in for three days as we had gone away (must point out this was accidental, as the little bugger hid and we didn't realise), at least the mouse problem seems to have gone.:raofl:
