Profiles

Didnt really think it was such an 'issue' not to have a full profile, i thought i was joining a friendly site and would ease my way in with a regard to becoming a full member soon, im a genuine easy going sort of guy but dont want to get into something that is a clique ridden, lets all intimidate the newby sort of thing, perhaps i will get my coat and leave then

If you cannot feel comfortable here then I think the problem might be at your end mate. Everybody was new here at first.

I would be interested to know why you have not given any profile details. Everybody is different so don't let it bother you. If someone is a regular poster then you get a feel for them anyway. Good or bad.

I look on the forum as a 2 way thing. You put a bit in and get a bit out. Not everybody looks at it that way.

I dont have i 'problem' i am really not that sort of person, i am new to forums and these sort of things i dont know how they work or what i am supposed to do to keep people happy, i thought that i had started to post a few things so people can 'get a feel' as you state, i have nothing to hide and will fill in a profile in my time and add any info as i see fit, i have plenty to offer and will share a lot of information and experience with anyone who wants to know, just let me get used to things please

Completely right, Adrian. Just take it in steps as you see fit :) Forums can be daunting places at first so take time to play it your way. Welcome, by the way!

its quite simple, this is basically some kind of motorhome/camper forum, with people willing to share their knowledge and experience with complete strangers without thanks or remuneration.some of us are newbies wanting to share our excitement at what we're discovering, while some of us are hardcore travellers willing to share and help.thats what ilike about the site.letting people know what van you have and what area you're from can only help you to be helped .there's a wealth of knowledge here, but some are just too paranoid to share.tough luck

Thats what my life is about, if i can help someone in any way or form i will, always have done, and will continue to do so. i tend to think most people are like me and if they are not i will still help regardless, knowledge is a great thing and if shared can enrich more lives, so share the knowledge, i know i will when i return from the Outer Hebrides in August

thanks

I have wanted to bring this privacy issue up for a while. I talk to many of you and I hope I come across as a lighthearted genuine kind of person because that's who I am. Me and himbenny have been lucky enough to meet some of you at the 'meets' and we have made some wonderful friends through this site. You all play an active part in building our knowledge and confidence in a lifestyle that we hope will never diminish.

Right here goes :scared:....... I have selectively chosen not to divulge any information on my profile at first I did and then it suddenly dawned on me just how big the site was. However I do have very valid and personal reasons for this and of course the nature of my job is another factor as to why I want to keep this way. I have had many discussions with friends and colleagues over the years on this precise topic on the why's I prefer not to have my photograph put on a Facebook/Furum etc. I have had to defend myself and my personal choice time and time again only to be accused of being rude, miserable etc. It crosses me when I would go out on a friendly night out only to find the next day my photograph splattered all over the Facebook, I would ask politely my photograph be removed and I simply stopped going out with them, and wiped out my Facebook account to a very select few and close family only. To me nothing seems sacred anymore, there is no control over what goes on the internet, Facebook winds me up no end I cant even begin to tell you, I even know of one family who communicate with each other via facebook despite living in the same house :lol-053:

I appreciate this has been a lighthearted kind of thread  and I am sorry if I have added a serious tone to it. For me its simply a MY PERSONAL CHOICE nothing more... nothing less.

Welcome Adrian Hogan

Welcome to the site Adrian, i am very shy and quite, in real life that is, but here, i don't have to be, 95% of the members are good folk, Jonas is just a nosey bugger, :lol-061:

You put in your profile what you feel comfortable with, however, it does help if we know the area you live especially for arranging meets, i am trying to spread the meets around so that everyone gets the chance to attend, also it helps if you need advice on something, if peeps know your area, someone will find something in your area, even if you've tried.

Hope to see you posting loads

Jen

there is no control over what goes on the internet

A very valid point - and to maintain the seriousness for just a little longer, there is no way of knowing if any of the information posted about somebody in their profile is true but you can make a judgement about people from what they post and the way they post it which is probably more reliable than some so-called factual information they might post.

Btw, my profile says I am a 65 year old man but as everybody now knows, I am really a 16 year old girl :D

I hadn't known there was nothing on my profile page. Never even thought about it until I was accused of sniping from the sidelines. That stung a little and I took it to heart and tried to upadate my profile page. I felt a little bullied but the accusation seemed reasonable: I was dishing a little stuff out and, maybe, people had a right to know just what background I had.

But I tried and the site wouldn't let me do it. I assumed because I'm a free member but I don't know for sure. I just couldn't update it. So I tried to point people to my original intro post and it seems as though I've been around so long my original intro post has fallen off the end and it isn't there any more. They only go back five years and that's just about how long I've been here.

So I did another intro. Most people have at least an intro.

I'll maybe do more, but I don't think I will. Anybody wants to know about me they can find plenty of stuff. Somewhere on here there are pictures of me, my van, my holidays and all sorts. Even my email address which I've not bothered to conceal. On reflection I might just search that out and conceal it.

I were wundrin' why some peoples profiles are completely blank? I know it's their choice but it is nice to be able to read about people on a forum. Even the county they live in would be a start but then they might all have signed the Official Secrets Act! I never thought of that:confused:

"Don't tell him Pike!":D

I know who you are referring too, please don't take that to heart, you shouldn't feel like you have to say anything about yourself, you contribute to this site enough, who cares what background you have? and what right has someone got to demand you put up a profile, it means diddly squat anyway, cos you can make it all up, you seem very nice people and that's all that matters innit?

Hello big boy - I'm a sixteen year old girl looking for a man with experience. Please let me know your holiday plans and where you leave your spare key and I can promise you a time you will not forget. ;)

Thank you.

Something has been niggling away at my mind in the last half hour or so. Related to this but not directly applicable. Something to remember though.

Some time ago a member tried to get us to join a site called something like litter action. I joined but I had to think a little hard about what information I put on the registration form. The registration wouldn't complete unless we put our address - or maybe postcode - but enough to identify who we are and where we live. The litter action group was to be called something like Motorhomers Litter Action Group.

It occurred to me that by registering we were saying: "This is me. This is where I live. You'll know the house because outside there will be a campervan filled with nice stuff. If the campervan isn't there then possibly the house is empty. That's filled with nice stuff too."

I'm a little too open about personal stuff and I think most of us are.

But thank you, Kimbowbill. I appreciate that.
