I were wundrin' why some peoples profiles are completely blank? I know it's their choice but it is nice to be able to read about people on a forum. Even the county they live in would be a start but then they might all have signed the Official Secrets Act! I never thought of that:confused:

Sssshhhhh! You could end up exiled in the salt mines of Biggleswade!

Sorry, but going to have to kill you now you've figured it out!!!:ninja::ninja:

Aah but you can't I signed it years ago and am still bound by it LOL Gawd know why cos I know nuffink. That's not strictly true I do know all about Conquerer tanks... Does that count?

That is their choice but it can work against them.

It is no good asking where they can get a part from locally without giving out the area where they live. So why not give it in the first place.

Some members feel that why should they give free help to people who give absolutely no information on themselves.

Some people are paranoid about privacy. I am not, I live in Gateshead. Next time you are passing, just call in for a cup of tea. You have all the info you need to find me .... ie: Gateshead, dead easy.

I do not care what info anyone gives (or doesn't) but it might influence whether they get an answer from me.

Some people never really contribute and only post when they have a problem and need advice (usually to avoid paying a dealer). Thats alright, I would probably help them anyway, unless I thought they were just using members as a convenience. Oh yes, it happens.

I'm old enough to have worked on chariots when Boadicea was charging up and down the A12 ... Swing the lamp someone fer gawd's sake:cheers:

I think the're just being miseries and unfriendly if they don't want anyone to know anything about them. That's what it looks like to me, anyway. Well I don't care, leave 'em to it say I.

No but I was attached to 2RTR in 64. They were stationed at Omagh. Equipped with Saladin armoured cars. In later years I was an AQMS at Larkhill.

i wondered this too? Maybe when they first join they don't put it cus they not sure if they'll like the site and then when they stay for a while they just forget to change their profile? You do see a lot of newbies with no info?

He's a bit younger than you then. Lost his leg (silly boy) mid 80s. We met 'cos I lost mine (careless boy) in '76 and we both do some voluntary work for the main charity that looks after us ex-squaddies with bits missing (BLESMA).

Blesma is a great organisation. My father lost a leg at Dunkirk and they helped him a lot until he died in the 80s.

I have so much respect for the old boys who I get to meet, and their wives / widows who are members of BLESMA. I am pleased that your father received the help he deserved and hope that he found fellowship amongst comrades.

Right that's enough for me tonight - I need far more beauty sleep before i get to meet anyone from this site.................:lol-049:

Didnt really think it was such an 'issue' not to have a full profile, i thought i was joining a friendly site and would ease my way in with a regard to becoming a full member soon, im a genuine easy going sort of guy but dont want to get into something that is a clique ridden, lets all intimidate the newby sort of thing, perhaps i will get my coat and leave then

Sorry you feel like that I just asked out of curiosity. This is a friendly site. I have only been here a short time and have seen no evidence of cliques?

it's not a big Issue, you are still most welcome.
I think what some are saying is that it's nice to know what area of the uk or world people are. We have members who live in France, Spain, Australia and all over. Some members are more outspoken than others, it's taken me over 12 months of being a member before I started regular postings as I am quite shy (OH yes I am Jenny! :lol-053:) and I have met some lovely folk from off here who I would never have met otherwise. Even going to meet up with members after seeing you are from the same town.
