Prestonpans beach CU

I was only comparing height barrier to a TRO. All East Lothian costal carparks have height barriers which campervans can get under allowing them to still be used for overnight stops. Making a height barrier better than a TRO. Just one of the reasons I prefer a campervan for wildcamping. šŸ˜Ž

Yes they are possibly the worse offenders in Scotland.
I heard that signage was put up banning overnighting in Musselburgh.
But what's really wrong with barriers is it prevents us from visiting during the day also.

That CU looked like it was out of the way of housing seems harsh.
I could see their point in Musselburgh next to the flats, we felt a bit uncomfortable there.
Not that I agree with what they did.

If motorhomes had avoided parking in front of the flats and , latterly , in the turning spaces at musselburgh maybe barriers would not have been erected .
Prestonpans , possibly because of Musselburgh , was getting busier and busier . I , personally , don't park up where there are lots of vans .

Problem is you don't always know there will be lots of vans.
I parked in North Berwick in June and there was only three of us.
I went back in September and I could not get in, I had to head up to the top carpark.

Yes I agree shutting Musselburgh and the rest simply reduces the places we can go, possibly leading to to many at prestonpans.
I never got to prestonpans, but it looked spacious and well away from houses on google earth.
There was plenty wrong at Musselburgh, so much so my wife did not want to return.
What has been done about those other issues, nothing I bet.
No worries there is still plenty of other places to visit, and some of them are stunning.

There was nothing wrong with motorhomes using the Prestonpans site. It is tucked out of the way and doesn't impact on any dwellings, dog walkers, etc. Used by very few, if any, cars. The site hasn't been used by travellers (except when the 'shows' turn up once a year) which is East Lothian Council's usual excuse for the barriers. As a council they just don't know that they don't know.

Yes it looked that way online from what I could see.
Real shame that yet again this council have closed yet another carpark.
Barriers donā€™t only prevent overnight use, the prevent us from visiting during the day.
Thankfully there are still hundreds possibly thousands of other places to go.

I have to disagree about number of cars . Latterly not much space for cars because of motorhomes . Prior to that , in my experience , lots of cars . Not saying justified but possibly why height barrier has gone up ? British attitude does seem to be to remove problems elsewhere instead of dealing with them .
I do agree it was an excellent site for us . Obviously you could park there and not know how many other vans would turn up .
Last time I was there there was , I think , 3 other vans all spread out . VW parked within a couple of feet from me . Driver went to longish grass and squatted to have a pee [hopefully] . I went elsewhere .

I use this carpark for eating my fish and chips from Bene,s chipshop. The carpark is used a lot by dog walkers with it being next to a large grassy area and beach. Lately it has been very busy with motorhomes probably as has been said with Musselburgh having a height barrier installed. Itā€™s just another spot being turned into an unofficial campsite and people donā€™t like that.

Yes its a favourite spot to watch sunset . Just wish there could be a compromise for these places

Alcam, the problem is we are seen as a problem.

I have no doubt that with each car park having barriers erected the "problem" will only move on elsewhere, and with even less places in Lothian to go to.

Musselburgh I could understand, but this one seems wrong.

The fewer places left, combined with an increase in vans can only go one way.

also most of the owners don't come from here in my experience.

Peopleā€™s who donā€™t do what we do see motorhomes and think they should be in a campsite.

I agree . Once a place like this gets on the various sites it is open season .
Difference is in mainland Europe it is dealt with not removed totally .
Off at end of month , France and Spain . Will be nice to be accepted (no political inference)

Yes I agree.
And then thereā€™s the fear of travellers.
That is a driving force for councils.
I was looking forward to visiting this CU.

We are off for five nights today 3 wild camps and two in the Dunbar camping and caravan site.
There are plenty of places to go, but Lothian is becoming a no go area.

If you find any new places tell no-one .
Apart from me of course
