Prestonpans beach CU

Guy done that to me in Bq car park in our works van parked so close he slid out the door once he went inside we parked two vans one either side of him about 3 inches from his car locked the vans went and got a coffee then watched him try to get in his car what a laugh we took the piss right out him by pressing the key fobs on the van alarms from cafe windows.

If you want quiet there is another place you can wild camp near Dunbar - we stay at the C n C club site quite regularly. If you continue past the entrance to it towards Barns Ness lighthouse there is a big layby which regularly has motorhomes parked up (just prior to the East Lothian Council beach car park which has a height barrier and toilet block). Easy access to the quiet beach (2 minutes). Single lane tarred road with passing places - very rural. No signage about overnight parking. Bob

Is the lay-by located here?

Google Maps

Streetview may be out of date ...

Hi yes, but that is an old view as the cement works has stopped mining in this area - there is a fairly large lay by which is an in/out loop from the main road so nobody passing you or being blocked.

Ok in a works van if it dont belong to oneself but when the door opens onto our pride and joys motorhomes and campervans often leaving damage then its a different story and soooooooo annoying especially when they dont give a hoot.

I know it is a bit late in this thread, but what is a CU? I have been trying to work out if it is just a typo but without success.

At Prestonpans yesterday greeted by a nice new height barrier. You can drive round it at the moment but it's obvious we're not wanted.

You get away with one or two vans but when it gets turned into an unofficial campsite this is what happens. I won’t have a problem getting parked to eat my fish and chips now.

Real shame, looks like I will never get there then
Soon Lothian will become a no go area for us.
I looked at this site and it looked well away from homes in the area.

Good thing about a height barrier it still allows us camper vans to use it and only prohibits motorhomes. A TRO would ban everyone from spending the night. 😎

Sorry but there's nothing good about putting up barriers Caledonia.
This forum is here for the benefit of all within the motorhome community.
And putting up barriers does not in anyway benefit us.

It's great that you can still use this CU currently.

But if Musselburgh is anything to go by it may be followed up with signage barring overnighting.

I was only comparing height barrier to a TRO. All East Lothian costal carparks have height barriers which campervans can get under allowing them to still be used for overnight stops. Making a height barrier better than a TRO. Just one of the reasons I prefer a campervan for wildcamping. 😎
