Portsmouth clean air zone

I bloody hope not, the Bradford one is crackers, shaped like knob too, as a resident I applied for an exemption and I had to state how often I would drive in it per year, I said 12 and I drive in every so often just for the hell of it but it is getting more difficult, bloody road works are killing the place and most of it looks to going pedestrians only.
I live near Bradford as well, Low Moor at the moment, and just miss the CAZ. It's all a nonsense IMO, just in the interests of control and money making.

Diesel cars of the same age would be included.
Our car is diesel and exempt everywhere I think.

Yup it is.

Look how big our zone is too, taking the wee for sure.

But how old is your diesel car? My 2006 petrol car is exempt, diesel motorhome the same age not. The authorities would be more wary of diesels that were involved in the scandal of testing clean but on the road being quite polluting! It's not whether its a car or motorhome but the standards of the engine manufacture at the time.

It's a 2016 Fiesta 1.5 diesel.

My motorhome is also not exempt, I just have it registered locally so I can use it in the zone, I'm also a blue badge holder and as such I can drive it into the Scottish zones it was for 36 months, I may have around 24 left but I can renew at the end or if I change vehicles.

I got scammed out of £100 in my uplated Euro V Crafter ( PHGV) in the Portsmouth zone if I had left it at 3500kg (PLG) there would have been no charge, same van same emmisions but discriminated against for being honest and driving a road legal motor caravan rather than an oh so common overweight one!

Looked on Gmaps and it doesn't look possible so I asked Google.

To get to Southsea without going through the Portsmouth Clean Air Zone (CAZ), you can:

  • Drive to the port via the M275: The port and Portico are outside the CAZ, so hauliers and port users are unaffected.

  • Apply for an exemption: You can apply for an exemption or sunset period online if you operate a non-compliant vehicle. You'll need to provide evidence to prove you're eligible.

  • Take public transport: You can use public transport to get to your destination.

The CAZ is located to the southwest of Portsmouth and covers an area of approximately 3km2. The following vehicles are charged to drive through the CAZ: Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs), Buses and coaches, Taxis, and Private hire vehicles.

Private cars, vans, and motorcycles are not charged. Some specialist vehicles, like those used by emergency services, are also exempt.

You can check your registration on the government's CAZ checker.

That's as clear as mud

The CAZ is the same on both of your screenshot images and yes, you can use the A288.

@drewswfc

If I return to the esplanade I will be going via the A2030 all other routes look dangerously close to the zone especially if you haven't been before and that's how I got trapped and conned out of £100 last time

Which Ferry are you talking about?

Brittany Ferries:
Portsmouth International Port is outside of the CAZ and passengers and hauliers driving to and from the port via the M275 will be unaffected. However, if your arrival or departure route is through the CAZ, you will be charged if your vehicle is not compliant.

Isle of Wight:
Cars and vans going to and from Wightlink’s car ferry terminal in Gunwharf Road will not be charged. Drivers of these vehicles can continue to use Wightlink’s services as usual. Motorcycles are also exempt.
The only vehicles to be charged will be older taxis, private hire vehicles, buses, coaches and lorries (HGVs).

So you can't avoid it going to the IOW but you may be exempt, so check your reg.

I'm not catching a ferry. I'm down for the football from Sheffield and want to park up in the Southsea area

I won’t be taking either of my PHGVs across to the IOW any time soon from there then!
Perhaps one of those awfully nice French entrepreneurs will lend me one of their extra large crowd size dinghy’s once their eager passengers have finished with it
