Police sledging

Is it OK for police officers to sledge on their shields

Just read that the sledgers got reprimanded, probably for missuse of equipment and behavior whilst in uniform.

Surely on duty! As has been reported in the media. And is there not offence in the police of bring the uniform into disrepute?
Just come into this....how on earth is this bringing the police into disrepute. One minute the old bill are being slagged off and told they should be more human... then next they are slated because they do.

Also the video was recorded by a member of the public not the officers and those officers were not on £1000 a week by a long way. I am sure they would drop everything is a shout came in. I have too many times had to re-heat my meal sometimes 4 times in one night.

I have to say this has been going on for years, I used to use property bags they were much better :)

Thanks to all those who have supported the bobbies and those against it..... have you never done anything for your self during work time.... I doubt it very much.

Seeing that video made me proud to be ex TVP

Well how does sledging in police time result in them been more human?

Ah yes but most people do not have such a high profile job that requires such a standard of discipline. Although that doesn't seem to apply to the the officers who were arrested recently after they misused credit cards. Or the officer that has been arrested on several sex charges in the North East, again recently!

Your point being???

Your point being???
My point been that by sledging how does that make them more human? When we hear many times in the media that the police don't even attend 999 calls immediately, is it because they are more occupied elsewhere? I believe Jack Straw (that man of straw) said the other week that some police are making form filling an excuse for not been out on patrol. When forces with good procedures don't rely such excuses! It's a bit too much like the MP expenses when we have been told for years we have the most honest political system. Does this not apply to the police as well?

In fairness, Steve K a serving officer in post 12 clearly states he wasnt in agreement of the policemans actions.

I thought you might like this serving officers opinions as well Paul.

Sorry, but they are supposed to be at work! They are all in uniform and messing around in full view of the public. This is not a very professional image. Aside from the lack of professionalism, the equipment was being misused. Would a shield that got broken in this manner of high jinks be thrown in the back of the van waiting for some other poor unsuspecting officer to retrieve it when it was really required!

I have to say, I'm not impressed by this is the slightest.

Sorry if my opinion on this offends.

I still personally dont have a problem and can see both sides of the coin.

999 response times for the record are not necessarily down to the police. Often calls are taken by 'civilians' who grade them. And allocate response thereafter.

Of course all professions have wrongdoers, inevitable when you consider the size of the Police force on laws of probability.

one less shield

'Would a shield that got broken in this manner of high jinks be thrown in the back of the van waiting for some other poor unsuspecting officer to retrieve it when it was really required!'

One less shield that cannot be used to beat up a innocent protester has got to be a good thing. A Policeman who resorts to using a sheild has lost the plot and unfit to hold the post!

On the other hand, one more shield would be useful if you had to stand still in a line and were being pelted with bricks and bottles.

Yup as demonstrated tonight on the news police being pelted with bottles etc by demonstrators ...English summat league ? protesting about muslims !!!

My point been that by sledging how does that make them more human? It does not make them more human, it does ,however, demonstrate humanity. When we hear many times in the media that the police don't even attend 999 calls immediately, is it because they are more occupied elsewhere? Probably not. I believe Jack Straw (that man of straw) You are not being very impartial, as suggested earlier I think you have a hidden agenda. said the other week that some police are making form filling an excuse for not been out on patrol. When forces with good procedures don't rely such excuses! It's a bit too much like the MP expenses when we have been told for years we have the most honest political system. Does this not apply to the police as well? NO.

I don't think your argument stands up at all.

Nor me FWIW, Despite an earlier denial, it seems Paul C likes to concentrate on negative happenings within the Police and conveniently overlooks the amount of people employed in the collective organisation that in effect the incidents are isolated hence why they make the news:rolleyes:.

A lot of officers I am sure, are far more angry than us i.e Joe Public when their own rank and file bring their work and ethics into disrepute.

The police like any organisation will always have its problems and issues re conduct and behaviour , to believe otherwise if frankly naive IMHO .

So considering your criticism paul C , that we understand, please share the solution.

Then why are more and more incidents coming to the notice of the public?

Well I'm been deafened by the silence then!

I don't believe otherwise and I'm not!

There isn't one unless gods (LOL) are recruited. But they are up to using all the tricks in the trade! Of instance I believe photographers have been having a demonstration today about PC Plod going overboard and using anti terror laws in an attempt to stop them going about their normal, legal, activities! So it would seem that they are not above implementing the law as they see fit! Not as it was intended to be used.

You are referring to s44 of the Anti terrorism act 2000.

Last week the European court of Human Rights suggested that the government was using this legislation out of context. Has it happens ECHR judgements dont oblige the government to do a thing, however it seems the government have lodged an appeal in any case.

S44 in effect allows the stopping and searching of any individual, for those wondering where I am going here.

Paul they are not implementing the law as they see fit but as it is prescribed at the moment.' Not as it was intended to be used' is an interesting comment.

Next thing you will be suggesting members of the Brazilian Electricians Union complete with rucksacks should be the only ones stopped.

I think it does though, anyhow why have they lodged an appeal if it doesn't matter?

Yes it is! As there was a case last week that the powers were been over used, when I think, some people were stopped and searched on their way to a protest and the judges said the searches were illegal!

Don't understand! But isn't it interesting that he was shot 8 times in the head, over kill or what! Pun intended. And never the less the officer in charge was promoted.

I assure you that the govt has no legal obligation to accomodate any ruling from the ECHR, If they do or dont is more to do with the ,spirit ' of doing what is seen to be right. the appeal is the right channel of action the govt believes but should they lose the appeal there is no guarantee the law has to change....you heard it here first!!

S44 is a very clever piece of legislation or badly worded dependant upon ones viewpoint.?

Has for our Brazilian mate shot in London, I have serious reservations that it was the police that shot him.!!...the technique and indeed the ammunition which no police force is issued with would lead me to believe he was shot by third parties..the police took the wrap....but too much evidence to suggest their was a significant third party involvement in my opinion.

Anyway matters not.

I look forward to a coherent explanation of what you think and how law and order should be administered.

So why do the judges keep releasing people because it is against their human rights?

I have serious reservations that it was the police that shot him.!!
You are in serious conspiracy theory now! Princess Di isn't dead, she works in a chippy down my way!

I look forward to a coherent explanation
You have forgone that privilege by your previous statement!

I know I said I wasnt going to respond however a couple of points raise issues.

Firstly to get back to the original point I think the officers should be congratulated for observing heatlh and safety issues by keeping their yellow high vis jackets on! Secondly what about the carbon issue, they may have introduced a new method of carbon free transport!

On a serious note Policing is a difficult business, you cant please everbody all the time.If you want an idea of what the police are up to most of the time just watch Jeremy Kyle (if you can bare it)and see how the feral benefit underclass go about their daily lives,or have a read of police blogs like inspector gadget,PC Copperfield or if you can find it ,nightjack.

Dont let Jack Straw have you believe that we are all lounging around doing bot all. I worked a 17 hour day on Saturday dealing with two house burglars which involved a team of 4 doing area searches, house searches, statements, four hours of interviews (which all have to be transcribed for court) and came back in on the sunday after 5 hours kip to do the court file.

Yes there are bad officers who have been used as examples in this post and they do get weeded out or jailed, however the other 99.9% are hard working oficers with only one thing in mind-keeping the jails and courts full.
