when my discs are scored and the pads are worn to the same shape, i take comfort in my theory that the grooves have increased the braking surface making the brakes more effective

How do you lot expect an honest dealership to earn a crust.

As already mentioned, have a look.
Don't forget changing brake fluid, that's recommended every few years as well, can't remember exactly how many years, but it's not many.

Back in the day did we ever change our brake fluid? Never, but yes it's hydroscopic so needs changes now and then

My granddaughter took her car to the local BMW garage yesterday for a recall issue and a health check before it's first MOT. They said it needed new pads all round and new discs, 2 new wheels and a new bumper. She couldn't leave the car with them to be fixed as their insurance didn't cover her for a courtesy car due to her age, but she did book it in for the recall repair but was told that there would be a £235 charge for it - of course she flatly refused to pay.

The pads weren't that old so she took it to another garage for a checkup and they said that the pads were only 50% worn, the discs were fine and there was absolutely nothing wrong with the wheels or bumper.

Her car is under warranty with them so she wants any work done by them if necessary but she won't pay for work that is not needed so she showed them the mechanics report stating that the faults they reported did not exist. She has now received a full apology from the manager and they are collecting the car from our house tomorrow to do the recall work free of charge and a free MOT.

Yep, me too with our chevrolet car to clear a mystery vibration, you need discs and pads all around they said, which i knew to be false. It took it elsewhere - cracked abs ring - quick cheap repair by comparison.

Problem with brake fluid change thay can brake bleed nipples, then new callipers needed .

They are a bleedin' useless garage if they can't retrieve the broken off part and say u need a new caliper, next they'll say u have to have a new pair to match.

Christina took her Mercedes to the merc dealership at Newbridge where she purchased it from for its first MOT, it failed on the letter/number on the registration being too close (half a space) but an advisory for cracks on her rear tyre, never heard of a blow out on a number plate! so to answer the o/p question AYE!

Ah yes the tyre crack wheeze, is that still goinf around, sounds like it...
