Phrases you never hear from a garage

Back in the days I had a company escort van the company garage accused me of changing my brake pads, they were lasting twice as long as the other service vans . Probably cos illearnt to drive on old tractors where jumping on the brake pedals had very little effect on speed down the road with a load ed trailer... I once went all the way from Lancaster to Bridgwater on motorway without touching brakes just to prove I could do it.

All it takes is forward observation, no point in racing to red lights etc.

This MG has regen so it will stop fairly soon on its own, even quicker if I set it to level 3 and put ACC on.

On the down side, it will not coast like a normal car down hill, it will slow down too quickly.
 
Driving a long distance on a motorway without touching breaks is easy though.
Try city driving doing that, not that slowing down from 5 MPH causes much wear. 😂

On my EV the ACC only applies regen if the vehicle in front slows down. If there is nothing in radar range it just cruises.
I use ACC on fast roads, and the lightest regen else where.

The ACC on this is very sensitive so I only use it on dual carriageways or motorways, I wish it just had CC as an option, it does lane following and lane keep etc which I turn off.

What I was meaning before was if in the Fiesta I took my foot off the gas it would just coast in gear until I either had to brake or accelerate, this car is either on or off the gas, off and it goes into regen straight away when all I want to do is keep pace, so I use fuel more not less.

Not sure what the issue is.
If I'm using ACC my car just cruises along at a constant speed using a little power to over come wind resistance or on inclines.
This is just the same as using CC.
It only applies the brakes if someone pulls in front of me or if the vehicle I am cruising behind gets too close.


If I'm not using ACC and I haven't switched regen on, it slows down very gradually due to to wind resistance.
This is just the same as taking your foot off the accelerator on any vehicle.

I guess different manufacturers have slightly different software.

I must admit I don't use any of the lane control functions and they are turned off.
 
One problem with ACC is it's radar only 'sees' about 500m or so ahead , not as far as we actually look, so we would back off the accelerator a lot earlier than ACC, to minimise braking and fuel use. Otherwise I find it very useful (with Lane Centering Assist,LCA, Automated steering, on a long journey. Until someone decides to overtake and pull back in front of you one metre off your front bumper, and ACC has to brake hard.
 
ACC will possibly be very different from car to car, ours seems very sensitive to oncoming and parked cars, possibly due to being a cheap Chinese import, the MG forum is full of negative comments about most of the nanny software which none of us asked for and were not properly advised about at the dealers.

Discs do wear more quickly these days,
modern pad (asbestos free) seem to be harsher on the discs and heavier vehicles seem to be contributing factors .

Putting new pads on worn/pitted/rusty discs can be a false economy as the pads wear quicker .

And new pads on tramlined discs don't hold too well. When buying discs always try to blag a discount on the pads.
