Oxford Zero Emission Zone Red Zone Jan 2020

I live near Oxford and can inform you all that the area designated is almost inaccessible to most vehicles, especially Queens Street as it is buses only. St Michael's street leads onto Cornmarket which is a pedestrian only street.
So unless you are a delivery driver this new zone won't effect you.
Having said all the above anyone that drives into Oxford for pleasure or shopping is either very wealthy or slightly deranged , i can assure you it's not a pleasant experience.

As the video says it will be a phased introduction and will cover the whole city by 2035

The problem here is this is not the end.
yes so far it’s London, Bristol and now Oxford.
but soon we will be talking about cities that don’t have low emission zones.
meanwhile China is building new coal and gas fired power stations every week,
and the nutter in the Whitehouse has pulled the biggest polluters out of the Paris accord.
Once you visit Las Vegas or go shopping in the states you realise that we are wasting our time. We bought 4 bottles of wine in Florida, and the shop assistant put each bottle into its own plastic bag, then put all four into a 5th plastic bag.

Yes we have to do something about pollution, but why do I feel that stopping people from buying the least polluting vehicles by charging the highest road tax, is not the way forward.

My last sentence still applies, you really don't want to drive in Oxford, it's much cheaper and easier to use the park and ride or in my case the bus.

The west of Portsea island is destined to become a low emissions zone apparently. Sensibly this would take in the ferryport. As this is owned by the council it is just outside the zone. Wightlinks ferry landing will be in the zone, which will only charge lorries, buses and taxis to enter thereby deterring deliveries to the Isle of Wight deliveries using Portsmouth. Intelligent or what.

Maybe the same sort of thing will happen with Southampton, I know they complain about the pollution caused by the ships and big cruise liners :(

Any and all of these zero emission towns throughout Europe are simply being crossed of our lists of places to visit and that is because we always travel with our beloved four legged friends with us and we will never/ever leave them unattended in 'Millie' no matter where we are.

I agree there is a dire need to reduce CO2 and soot emissions, but shouldn't the World over they start attacking the real culprits of which one of the most significant polluters of them all is world shipping that all burn the crudest of crude untreated muck!

No they say they aren't going ahead, despite having a bigger problem than Portsmouth mainly due to the cruise ships.

Just read this morning that Edinburgh plans to ban all cars from the city centre within 10 years. They also plan to extend their tram system. It looks like park and ride will become the way forward, but what’s important is that sufficient parking on the city outskirts is made available.

Summer 2006 the then Edinburghs Telford College relocated to new Granton Campus, there was limited parking provision. This was because the tram line was to end near to our new campus. 2020, we are still waiting.

These highly paid idiots who run EC, they live in a dream world. Hell will freeze over before a tram reaches Newhaven, then Granton.

Next month Lothian Buses will increase fares and also pending is, the work place parking levy. From the womb to the tomb, the authorities are out to RAM us any way they can!!

I assume the 2030 car ban will exclude EV's?

we play lip service to global warming when it comes to using public transport.
just look at train fares rising above wage increase for the past ten years. And they use the higher rate of inflation the RPI to increase them. We now have the most expensive train fares in Europe, alongside one of the worse standards of service.

meanwhile China is building new coal and gas fired power stations every week,

This is often quote around t'internet, but is completely wrong, China is a massive investor in renewables, they aren't building "a new coal fired power stations every week" as many would have you believe , in fact around half of the ones they have stand idle.

My wife and my sister took the train to the Christmas market in Edinburgh. It cost over £70 for two people, having to endure sharing a train with rather noisy and half drunk passengers. I could take 6 people in my zafira for less than £15. How is that meant to encourage Use of public transport

Within their own country that is correct.
They used to produce 80% of their electricity using coal, now its 60%.
But they continue to build coal fired power stations worldwide.

Who will be the first to incorporate LEZ into GPS .? Or is it already here..
It would be a jolly good idea because it is very easy to slip over the border and not realize until you get a fine in the post :(

The problem will be trying to keep up with the changes as they are applied. I reckon soon we simply won’t enter any of our cities.

Where I live is in the LEZ but you would not call Harrow a city, if you were to go into Londons ULEZ then yes agreed its in the city

The smallest city in England Wells, is no larger than some villages. Then look at st David’s in Wales. But I suppose this will become the norm in many areas outside cities.
