I have started this thread after some one put on another thread that they like Tesco because they can overnight there, we have never found a Tesco that have allowed us to overnight on one occasion I did ask and was told no ( something about insurance and elf and safety ). If some of you have stayed over in Tesco would you please post on here what stores it was as I think it could be useful to a lot of us many thanks.

Tricky one to answer this one,I often stop at a certain Tesco n park at the far end near the trees, for a lot longer than the three hrs that they say,ive never done a full night but have seen the same van or two still in the same spot early the next morning when I go to get my fuel.
I am not saying which Tesco it is as Im not spoiling it for the vans that do an odd night there, but if anyone pm's me I shall tell them the name of the store ! All I shall say is that its within the M25 !

Some stores have cameras on them to see how long you stop there. Be careful!

We tried to stay on one about five years ago just outside chester parked out of the way stayed in the van which was a stealth panel van made a cup of tea settled in for the night it was a 24 hour store thought we would get away with it within 30 mins of pulling up heared voices and then bang bang on the door so just kept quiet bang bang we know someones in there we watched you pull in will the camera's there's no overnight parking you will have to leave sorry we had no choice but to own up and move on so no breakfast from tesco's cafe in the morning but we don't hold it against them

Never mind Tesco's park on some local hotel car park, most are not bothered, they don't know who is staying there, Premier Inns and such like are good.

Why would you need to be careful just because there's a camera? All they can do is politely ask you to go or send you an invoice 'parking charge' which you don't have to pay.

As in the cameras take your reg and take your reg in the way out so if y go over thier limit they can send u a fine weather u pay it is another thing but they rnt just CCTV

They can send as many letters as they like but you don't have to pay it, it is not enforceable

I happened to be in Tesco Dudley they other day, and noticed there was a time limit, also a separate company checking the parking times of customers.

Time limit was 2 hours i believe, no way would they operate a campover facility

Why would a motorhomer deliberately antagonise by knowingfully park somewhere where there is a time limit to cheerfully boast just ignore the letters and dont pay ?......

Is this type of behaviour really conducive to promoting our cause ?

No wonder there is introductions of height barriers etc.

The East Europeans in their little 3.5 tonne Curtainsider / Tilts regularly overnight in the supermarket car parks around here and nobody says a word to them.

Let someone try in a Motorhome and Security are on them in a flash.

Last year we had to set out particularly early ( 2am ) on one of our trips.

The wife asked if we could call in at one of the 24HR supermarkets to pick something up on the way to the motorway.

When we got there it had the usual bunch of teenagers hanging around the entrance, most of them p*ssed up.

She didn`t want to go into the shop or stay in the van on her own so we both went in together.

We was in there for only 5 minutes or so and when we came out i looked over and Security was looking in the van and knocking on the door.

I asked him what he was doing and he just barked back " You`re not sleeping here ".

I told him that we`d just nipped in to buy something and had no intention of sleeping there.

He just said " You`re not sleeping here and the clocks ticking, you have 2 hours ".

I told him to " Go f*ck himself " which he didn`t like and marched off ......................... LOL

I e-mailed and wrote a letter of complaint to head office but i`ve never heard anything back.

people ? ? ?

Couple of years ago I emailed several supermarkets and basically they said much the same. Often they don't own the carpark or it's managed by a different company. If they do own/manage it themselves, then its at the discretion of the local manager but they have no regulation or objection to you parking sensible for a few hours if you are shopping with them.

I can't see the point in parking somewhere that we are not wanted. I much prefer to park in a remote picnic site miles from anywhere , where nobody knows that we have stopped, than in a supermarket car park.

As some of the big chains employ the same company to patrol many of their carparks, if you offend in one, then at least in theory, you can get grief in all of them afterwards. I have not heard of a case of this happening Yet!! Perhaps better not to antagonise them on purpose.

I don`t know, some of them have Sleeping Pods on the top of the cab and some don`t, their drivers just sleep across the seats.

A couple of factors in my area could possibly be that there is the " Leyland Trucks " factory here :- Leyland Trucks Ltd is one of Britain's leading manufacturing companies and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of PACCAR Inc. Leyland Trucks designs and produces the LF, CF and XF models, which are high-quality light, medium and heavy-duty trucks under the

We constantly have the transporters bringing across the Cabs form Holland for the completed trucks to be built here then transported back.

Maybe they are carrying the ancillary parts for them ?

The other one is that we have the Bosal Exhaust Factory here :- http://www.bosal.co.uk/default.aspx

They are very often seen parked around there so i presume they then go in and fill up with exhausts and take them back to Eastern Europe
probably for a fraction of the price that a UK Carrier would do it for.

A couple of them started talking to us in a service in France and they were trying to sell us diesel.

They use 3.5 tonne curtain siders with sleeping pods n light front wheel drive vehicles fit a reason a the cuttin dude make its flex anole for multiple drop work also lighter meaning more pat load 3.5 tonne as then no tachometer graph operators licence etc and of course thier are ey directives in working hours drivers can drive as mNy hours as they wish then when they do need to sleep then can retire to thier pod for a while it's a very efficient way of transporting goods quickly ie in less than. 48 hours from anywhere in the eu . As per Texas says I know they may not be enfocable but all the sane it us private land so while u may want to ingnore any fine as mainframe says why bother using it given the hassle and the fact they don't want u thier or you have other options

I thought the laws around these parking fines / invoices had now changed, as before they had to be directed at the vehicle driver which was almost impossible to prove, now I believe they can be directed at the vehicle owner/keeper , a lot easier to enforce especially when DVLA are quite willing to dish out your details for a few quid.
