Did we get out of bed wrong side this morning then, mr slightly tetchy?

The original post that started this thread has a link to the United Utilities website.

And on that United Utilities page the question about using a hosepipe to fill water tanks on a motorhome has been clearly asked and subsequently answered by United Utilities

Q: Can I fill the water tanks on my motor home with my hosepipe?
A: No. The ban includes filling a container by means of a hosepipe with water supplied by the company.

Is there anything about the above statement that you don't understand?

Whether United Utilities have access to the same list of banned hosepipe activities as yourself is a moot point.
If they do, then their answer to the very specific question of motorhome-tank-filling-with-hosepipes may well be totally incorrect and misleading.

BUT - their answer is up there in black and white on their website for all to see, and a lot of people will take it at face value and think they're not allowed to use a hosepipe to fill their tanks.

Whatever, there's no need to be quite so belligerent about this to the rest of us, Mr Dog, or I'll start to think I'm in conversation with a troll, or at the very least an intolerant, rather rude know-it-all.

What I don't understand is why people are taken in by such misinformation. What I do understand is that that statement by UU is wrong, plain and simple.

If you want to know the regulations, read the regulations, not ask some twerp in a call centre or read a web page.

FWIW, I have written some of the manuals that UU uses, but not one about hosepipe bans.

People are 'taken in by such misinformation' because the misinformation is published in black and white on an OFFICIAL website.

If the information on that OFFICIAL website is subsequently found to be incorrect the viewer can hardly be blamed for not knowing it is incorrect.

What I don't understand is why YOU don't understand that, particularly as some of us are apparently not us as clever or insightful as yourself.
But then we don't have the benefit of your inside knowledge, do we?


Besides, it's hardly the first time in the history of large organisations that the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing, now is it?

whether its "legal " or banned theyve still got to catch you and gather proof before they can prosecute.

if the majority abide by the ban it aint worth spending money to prosecute those discretely ignoring it


filling yer tank is far less likely to cause you bother than having a lush green front lawn with sprinklers
