No claims bonus trap

We have not claimed for any accident for many years although we do a high mileage. Our little camper is our only vehicle that is problem No. 1, but the bigger problem is that for several years we have been with Adrian flux brokers, but with different insurers, Red star and Ageas, both of whom do not issue no claims bonus forms. If they did we would have over 10 years no claims. Last year with Ageas we were pleased to get insurance for 365 day Eu cover £244 plus a 100 pound fee and 150 pounds for European 120 day breakdown insurance. That is less than £500 all in. I just received the renewal like for like quote of £879.80 all due the car insurance increase. A conspiracy theorist would suggest that taking insurance without a continuing no claims certificate is a trap that I have fallen into.
We are members of the C&MH club and get our house insurance that way. I phoned them and answered questions as you do. The agent said they could not offer a quote as 2 of their insurers would not work with no no claims certificate. That is the annoying issue as we should qualify.
One would not quote as we do not have a 2nd vehicle, although I am a named driver on my sons car but that is usually 5 miles away although he is staying with us at the moment, so apparently does not count.
I am going to try AIB next but beyond that I seem trapped.

That sounds a lot, even allowing you aren’t paying insurance on another car. Unless of course your camper has a high value. I did drop mileage on my van this year to 7000 as I haven’t been doing anywhere near the 12k I had on. This years quote with LV came in at £413 including the breakdown with 180 days EU, it’s worded now on mine as 2 lots of 90 days though.

May be worth asking LV for a quote?

Consider yourself lucky. Devitts, who masquerade as C&M Club Insurance utterly screwed up my insurance, leaving me driving without insurance. They sort of apologised eventually. I'd never insure through them.

The good news is that I got the same policy with the same insurer through a different broker and it was more than £120 cheaper because it wasn't loaded with the broker's hidden fees and charges.

Nowadays I insure through AIB.

AIB found quotes but none cheaper.
My problems are a self build, still registered as an Mpv rather than re registered as a campervan, going to Europe for long periods, with no other vehicle in the household, and wanting a mileage of 17,000 pa.
If anyone knows someone with similar requirements who I could ask, who they insure with, would be great.
I will try LV, my insured value was only 16,000., but we are thinking of going for longer than 90 days to South East europe, outside schengen.

Our motorhome is our only vehicle, insured through Devitt(Caravan and Motorhome club)I try other insurers, but they always come out best price.

OP - is it worth having a word with Adrian Flux as it is through them you got your insurances? Perhaps they can shed some light on things for you or even sort this out? Worth a try as they are a broker at the end of the day so get them to work a bit for their cut.

It was through Comfort that i nearly lost all my NCB, thankfully Safeguard accepted my proof and re-instated it so i`ve been with them ever since.

Always been happy with Caravan guard, 270 days euro cover with UK and Euro breakdown, agreed value with good contents cover & 4k restricted mileage = £425, Happy with that as only a small increase on last year

Mine is a self built Mo-Ho which is properly registered witht he DVLA.

Initially I was insured with Adrian Flux as they offered the longest period for me to complete my build prior to registering it with the DVLA as a Motor Caravan. I then spoke to Adrian Flux when it came to the time of policy renewal and was utterly aghast at the charges they were proposing!! I was also more than a tad fed up to my back teeth with their telephone system, their phone answering skills (what skills) and their total lack of knowledge or interest in anything to do with the products they were insuring!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I then did try AIB and was so utterly peed off with their attitude that I hung up!!

I then approached Scenic Motorhome Insurance https://www.scenicinsurance.co.uk and was immediately impressed by the people I soke to, their interest in my self build and their overall levels of professionalism and their quote was also one of the lowest I had received whilst also offering the highest level of cover, so I went with them and have been with them now for 6 years. Each year I have checked out their quotes at the time of renewal and each year without entering into the usual kind of knee jerk rangling, their prices have always been amongst the best.

Our camper is our only vehicle too and like you we were with Adrian Flux for some time. When we first used them we had to supply evidence of our no claims for our then insurers Admiral at that point. When we left Adrian Flux they gave us a certificate for the years due (ie our original plus the number of years with them). It took a bit of effort to get there (as all things relating to Adrian Flux, or any insurance companies quite honestly do) so they should be able to issue a certificate for no claims. Even if they haven’t got the record for before you used them, they at least know how long you were with them so I’m not sure why they have not produced one for that length of time. Go back and state you want to make a formal complaint for mismanagement of your data under GDPR if you aren’t getting anywhere.

Interesting, I did ask for a no claims certificate to see what happened. They said that at the end of this year (Feb 28th). I would be due 2 years. That is the time with Ageas. I am pretty sure we were with Ers, through adrian Flux for at least 2 years before that. As you say they ought to have records of all our time with them even if the other years, on an earlier car, are harder.
I tried using the 2 year no claims with AIB but did not get an improved offer so took the Ageas option, but next year I will push them harder.

I thought that was the case as well. But I wasn't insured through Devitt. They left me without cover. I don't believe they could be the cheapest because they add over £150 in extra charges in top of their commission, some of it to cover the commission they pay to the club.

It should be noted (but check to make sure) that if you take out a policy with AIB that requires no proof of NCD, when that policy comes up for renewal, AIB will not issue an NCD, similar to Red Star and Ageas.

I have been insured with AIB on a policy with no NCD required previously.
I am insured with AIB currently for my Motorhome, and on a policy that DOES need NCD proof. And they are insistant on seeing it as well.

A company you could try also is A-Plan. I have used them quite a bit for my self-build VWs. One of which was a conversion which I specifically did not intend to register as a Motor Caravan and have it remain as an MPV (like yours is). I got a 'proper' campervan policy with all the usual arrangements and agreed that staying as an MPV was no issue.
A-Plan do have a specialisation in VWs, and a lot of VW Campers are also used as peoples 'daily drivers', so they would seem to tick a lot of boxes for you.
IIRC, when I took out my first policy with them, they did also give me an introductory NCD as well (my 'real' NCD was being used on a car and a car MOT is not transferable to a van (vehicle was not converted yet) anyway. an MPV van is considered a car usually (my VW Shuttle was a MPV body type but a 'diesel car')).
