Not so weird, but still a rare sight, I spotted this while out and about today.

A lovely old Merc 508D. It was parked up outside a local auto electricians waiting to have something fixed (heh, no surprise there!).

It's an import from Germany, apparently. Can't help myself, I do love 'em! 😍

Loverly old busses.....
Body Rusts like you wouldn't believe,
lots of panels/repair sections available though if you can weld ...
Be ideal with a nice big 6 cylinder Cummins engine in.

I've just made a quick MOT check on DVLA out of curiosity.

It's only done 29,570km, maybe it's had a change of engine?

Either that or someone disconnected the speedo at some point in the past... ?! 😲

Was first registered December 1981. Nearly 40 years old, bless it

It's actually quite an interesting watch.

Here's the first video - don't worry, there are subtitles!

I had a 508D for my first race transporter, it was called the mobile flat. We pulled it out of a scrap yard in Methven, drove it home no MOT or tax spent £14 on a rear wheel cylinder and it sailed through an MOT ran that for 4 years without spending a penny on it. A friend brought some 2x2 and ply from a site he was working on to box the wheel arches in creating space for tools and spares. We ran all over the UK and also did the southern 100 and TT god knows how many trips up north for weekends away. We had a sheet of ply that fitted inbetween the boxed in wheel arches that took a double matres an old cooker from a caravan and we thought we were doing well.

I really REALLY like the big ol' Merc vans & busses. Wish I could afford a really solid one ( wish there were some really solid ones left)🤔
