New Build

Ordered some cladding today from Wickes, using click and collect, had heard it was in short supply, but got my order confirmation, so now I wait to be told when I will be able to collect. Has any body used a Stanley electric brad nail gun, and are they any good. £40 quid in B&Q. Still doing a bit each day..........

I know that frame and panel is "old school" but I like it and its light as a feather.....nearly.

Just realized I have had a monster senior moment, I was on the page dealing with Chinese diesel heaters, and added a bit more of my self build there instead of here. Maybe someone on Admin can correct that please.....pretty please, and awfully sorry.

I don’t know about the stanley gun, I bought a titan nail gun from screwfix fires 15 mm brads and staples £19.99 if that is big enough for you I would recommend it mine has seen a lot of use and still going strong.

Debs your talents are awesome , the build is looking great , cant wait to see the finished product . Take care and stay safe (y)

So, yesterday I spent under the van retrieving my spare wheel, I knew it was going to be a task, and it was! Got the bolts off the winder and cut the cables off with my angle grinder. I kicked the spare, rattled it about, swore at it, and it stayed exactly where it was! Attacked the bottom of the bracket that holds the wheel up, with my angle grinder, eventually got through it, removed the spring and it's stuck fast, more kicking and it started to move and managed to get it turning till it dropped on the floor. So, I've now removed all the bracket parts and gained a couple of pounds for the scrap bin. The spare will live under the bed, as I had it in the Iveco. I am now sore and got aching shoulders, but being a self builder, got to put up with a few aches and pains. On with the build! 🛠

I can understand why an undermounted spare is a pain (I had one in my VW T5 and it took me around an hour to remove it the first time) but it is something so rarely used (usually) it seems a shame to take up valuable internal space when it could be left outside? (and the bolts etc lube'ed up to make it easier to remove).
I know with the T5s, theft was an issue and I used to have a heavy chain through the wheel and carrier to deter that. But I do like my spare on the LT where I moved it to - a carrier on the rear end bit like Trevors.

Well I've had a good look at the spare wheel, and the "cones" are badly pitted. I could get it blasted and powder coated for £70 quid a go, or a new rim for about £60. So i've ordered four new rims from Oponeo and I will save the best rim on the van for the spare.

Hear what your saying David, but I had my spare in the boot with the Iveco, and for me that works well.

Not going to be finished for a while Jeff, but when it is, and we are once again allowed out into the world, I think my first trip will be to Glasson.

We shot blasted rims and two packed them for £15 i would not use powder as cannot be touched up and peels/flakes badly, good for bar stool legs mind you as tuff.

Hi Marie, I've got a bit more done as in building the wheel arch box's, next will be making the insulated rear bulkhead, then I will be able to work forward to construct the furniture....it's gonna be a while yet though. Today was a gardening day with one of my neighbours, we do have gardeners, but they only cut the grass on high setting and don't even collect what the blades manage to reach.

Well I have had my first outing in the van despite it not being finished yet. I went to the meet at Lochore Meadows, and everything worked fine, so now to get the van serviced and it's MOT. I will also get on with the finishing which seems to take forever!
