Hi all,

So, following the announcement yesterday, it looks possible that the National Trust may start reopening some of their properties. As of this morning, the NT website now says:

"Following the Prime Minister’s broadcast outlining the Government's gradual roadmap out of lockdown we will begin to review its impact on our reopening plans."

As someone who has WC in many a countryside NT car park as well as having been a member for a years, I am hopeful that this is a step in the right direction for us.

My feeling is that they will start with their large countryside properties with lots of space and probably keep the grander houses closed for now?

What are all your thoughts on it?

I will be watching the NT website today like a hawk... ;)

No reason why NT car parks and outside areas should not open however a question might remain about the use of public toilets on NT property. Maybe it should be on a member only basis initially as non contact membership cards are used by members and the NT would have a record of who has visited what in the case of a report of a NT guardian having CV.

But then of course there is always the NHS app that in due course we will all be downloading onto our phones.

Did you really just say the toilets should be used on a member only basis........ what about the ladies?
That reminds me of a sign I saw in the changing rooms of the London Stock Exchange (obviously a very posh place until the 'Big Bang' of the 80's) ... "Members Only". I did wonder if there was a Ladies changing room as well :D (then again, probably no Lady members of the LSE back then?)

Ahem! One of my female friends was a 'member' back then, admittedly not actually on the 'floor', but in a training capacity.

They could keep loos locked, shouldn't be a problem for wild campers who are self sufficient :)

I wouldn't get over excited about the prospect of roaming free all over the place just yet, but I think a fair few were of the opinion that wild camping in our vans was a pretty good way of self-isolating before all the panic built up a head of steam and lockdown arrived.

Maybe, just maybe, it might be possible to make small, tentative steps at venturing out again in the not too distant future?
Fingers crossed, ey? We could all do with a little light and hope at the end of each of our tunnels...

Is non essential travel allowed now?

Well, apparently you can now sunbathe and exercise as much as you want on a daily basis and meet up in parks (and therefore, one presumes, other outdoor spaces), with people who are not members of your family, as long as there's not more than 2 of you.

What would you classify that as? :)

Driving to a NT attraction doesn't fit those criteria,I've not seen any CV briefings so finding it a bit confusing, and presumably doing all those things is within a walk/cycle from home?

Raab has said " "If you're out in the park and you're 2m apart... and use some common sense and you socially-distance, you can meet up with other people." and they also said you can travel for exercise so I'm thinking this some sort of ending to the ban on non-essential travel

I'm thinking of rocking up at my nearest NT place that is open (within reasonable distance) - don't need toilets or cafe with my van there ;-)

Boris did say you could *drive* somewhere for exercise!

From the BBC:
"People will also be allowed to take unlimited amounts of outdoor exercise, sit or sunbathe in parks, drive to other destinations to exercise and play sports with household members from Wednesday. "

Though I wouldn't for one minute think of driving huge distances - but if the NT place about 10 miles from me opens up -then I'm off for a day trip!

I think you maybe need to do a bit of a catch up today, Asterix. Boris has slightly put the cat amongst the pigeons with his wee cameo yesterday.

There is also going to be a 50 page document available later, presumably with 'proper' instructions/guidance.
However, at the moment I dunno where, dunno when, to quote the great Vera Lynn :)

Apparently. You just need to follow the advice and 'stay alert' :)

The risk is entirely up to you.

I have only been "staying alert" for this morning and I am knackered already. For some reason I keep having a mental image of Private Frazer (We're all doomed) walking in single file during the closing credits of Dads Army. Check it if you can't remember!

personally found the message pretty clear, with guidelines and reason for those guidelines. And he is remarkably treating the populace as if they had some common sense and ability to actually think for themselves! I know, ridiculous isn't it?

Actually, he'd doing/saying very little. Ridiculous isn't it?
Or maybe not? I reckon it's more or less left up to the rest of us to crack on with it as best we can :)

50 pages!!!! Is the plan to put the population to sleep until further notice?
