A hefty sense of self righteousness?

In the clear light of day and after a long and peaceful rest I can now see that you were deliberately prodding me with a sharp stick and I fell into the trap of responding - well done! One-nil to you, I think (or don't you believe in competition either?) ;)

my teenage daughter is stewarding at chagfest this year ... ive bookmarked the oxfam link for her to look at, for students with little money its the only way theyre going to get to these festivals to enjoy the performances.... they just aint got the money to pay the entry fees.....
anyone know if theres a minimum age on the oxfam scheme... couldnt see anything obvious on their website.

Of all the Charities I like Oxfam the least, their shops are charging ridiculous prices for donated goods ,their executives are receiving huge salaries, and now I see they want £195 per head deposit from people up front to Steward events for them from which they profit, [refundable if you attend as you stated you would ],I think today all the Charity shops have lost the plot in their shops , they have clothing on their shelves that are priced very high considering the market they are aimed at and the fact that the goods were donated in the first place, after a time clothes that are not sold are black bagged and sold cheap as rags , I have seen lorries taking several hundred black bags of clothing and textiles away for rags or that is what I was told by a Charity shop manager when I queried this, but I suspect that as the men on the vans were of Eastern European origin the goods were going elsewhere, Oxfam appears to be the worst offender.Perhaps you know differently?

whilst i chose not to support charities with swanky offices and overpaid managers , ive no real objections to my children using them to get stewarding at festivals. the security deposite is normal... though if the figure quoted is correct it does at first sight seem rather high.. but i dont know how it compares with the normal entry fees to the relevent festivals. the organisers have got to have some system in place to encourage the stewards to actually turn up for their shifts.... and i suppose a reasonably high figure will deterr the wasters who will probable be more hinderance than help..

It's correct !

Applying to steward with Oxfam in 2012

Applications to steward with Oxfam in 2012 are now open!

To apply, please ensure you have read the Before you apply area so you know what you will need to have ready and read the What is stewarding section, so you know you are comfortable with the role of stewarding. Please then follow the instructions below.

Please note: With the exception of Tramlines, where no deposit is necessary all stewards will have to pay a deposit of £195 as part of their application to secure their stewarding place. This covers you for all the festivals you steward at this year and is refundable after your final festival upon successful completion of your shifts. Find out more about deposits.
