As you say, times have moved on very quickly and if I were starting afresh right now I'd be going with an omnidirectional puck. Make sure it's backward compatible with 4G though as that's almost certainly what you'll be recieving when you're anything approaching remote. 5G doesn't carry distance anything like 4G does.I did consider the idea of using the TV Ariel as a mount but two things ....
1) mounting on the post was out as not enough post when retracted.
2) directional antenna would mean a case of EITHER using TV OR using Internet unless lucky and both signal sources happen to align. I am greedy and want BOTH
I still have the Ubquti directional radio/antenna kit (the same kit that Motorhome Wifi used to sell) and I was originally going to fit a second TV Mast specifically for that, so rising and rotating from inside nicely, but times have moved rapidly and a WiFi only solution is no good anymore.
FWIW, I have chosen a solution and it includes a 'puck' style antenna![]()
