Motorhome Usage Stats

Had my van just over 7 years and done 70k miles and never been out of Scotland. We get away every week even if it’s just a night. Use our van all year round and enjoy winter as much as summer.

Now this year Caledonia we will be getting out in the depths of winter for the first time.
I am determined that the new van will not lay dormant for months this time.
Also it will be quieter than in summer, that’s a real bonus.
No doubt we will make a few mistakes, and I will come in here for advice.
But that’s all part of the learning curve.
We won’t travel as far or stay out for more than 2-3 nights, but we will get out this winter.

Age stats

1060 days of ownership in this van
Not slept in it 135... well, I’ve only included days where neither of us slept in it
So that’s 88%.
Given we are full time, I was surprised it isn’t more, but we did move into our home (bricks and motor home) last winter for a few months.
And I think that just over half of that has been overseas.

Ian, we met a couple in Portugal from Britain - he was 80 and she was 90. Also met someone who started Motorhoming at 82.

Good to hear. We were inspired to think about motorhoming as a possible life-after-barging when we tripped over a 78 year old retired colonel and his recently acquired lady-friend travelling companion in a new Autosleeper Nuevo on the banks of the Meuse in France. He had recently splashed out on what he thought may possibly be his last van. He was regaling us with tales of his MH trip along the Silk Road.

we’ve had this van just over 3 years or 1280 days according to our storage log we have been in the barn 312 days so about 70% spent away out of which approx 160 days annually abroad in two trips so approx 50% of time out spent abroad
