Motorhome Heating when on EHU

We are discussing electric hookup, not gas.
 
I was at a show once and talking to a Truma engineer I remarked that their heating on electric was about as much use as a panting dog. He told me that I was using it wrong. The best way to use their combi heating is to get it to temperature using gas and electricity as quickly as possible - ie maxi it out, then switch it to electricity only and it will maintain that temperature. I now do this all the time in cold weather and it works perfectly, no need to carry another appliance.

I believe that the models suffixed with an 'e' are also electric.
 
We have a Truma combi with gas and electric functions - the instruction book for it doesn't cover using the electric heating for some strange reason. However. a bit of research on the internet revealed how to use the second rotary switch. Works real good.

They do, we have one as do presumably the other posters discussing whether they put out sufficient heat on leccy only.

When sorting out what we want on the new mh, the Truma combi comes with gas operation as standard - the gas and elec is non-standard and costs more.

Think the "e" in the name denotes elec version.

Then I have no experience of that. I knew that you could heat the water with some Truma's on EHU but was not aware that it would also heat the hab. Both of the MH's we've owned with a Truma, the current one being a Dethleffs from 2013 only have gas.
 
We have the trumatic fire and blown heating that we can use either on 500 or 1000w. We I just ever use the 500 and that gets too warm at night I have to turn the temp down even on that setting.Never use the blown at night either. Only ever use gas fire when I have to pay 40cents a kilowatt for it.
 
A fan heater will keep the air dry where as a rad will not,but as others have said a oil filled rad is safe and will give same heat,problem i find is size and where to mount one rather than free standing.
So i bought a little 500w electric element air flow rad on net for about £10 with rear mounting bracket and im mounting it beside door opening where there is room.

oil filled heater to slow to heat a van ,ceramic fan heater perfect.
 
I turn the combo on 2000w then if it still gets chilly use the eberspatcher as backup , mine has a separate tank so I can run it on cherry ;)
 
The Truma Combi heater is essentially a gas heater with two electric elements for the UK market. Sites outside the UK tend not to have sufficient ampage to run the heater and water on electric. They contain two identical electric elements of 900w each giving a maximum output of 1.8kw. In addition you have a gas output of up to 6kw. The quickest way to heat the van is to set the energy dial to run both gas and electric together plus set the control dial to room heating. Once the desired temperature has been reached switch to electric only and set the control dial to heating and water.

Not safe enough for a motorhome, the Kampa has a safety feature if knocked over. I have bought many cheap electrical applinces and have found them to fail after a short time.

All modern heating appliances now have safety devices, tip over buttons, and thermal cut outs etc, tesco's would not let you down.

Hi, our van is a Chausson and has a Combi E - you have the choice on electric only mode to select 900W or 1800W on the secondary electric switch. Then use the other switch which is the standard one if you don't have the electric. Turn it down once from the central off which gives blown air heating and some hot water and down again to give heating and 60 degree water. I have found the water to be very hot on the 1st setting. If you want hot water only you turn the standard switch up once for 40 degrees and twice for 60 degrees. Thank God for the internet and kind people posting instructional video clips - I would have (maybe) worked it out myself - it doesn't appear in any of the Truma users manuals I have looked at so far. We are hooked up fairly regularly and don't see the point of using our gas when we've paid for the leccy with our pitch fee. Bob.
 
I use a non oil Dimplex it works a treat has a thermostat I just set that and carry on in the warm
