Motorhome Heating when on EHU

We have an old electric fan heater that we have had for years, the wife will not use it any more. So have to buy a new one. Are oil filled radiators better than fan heaters ? What do others use ?

If on hookup the Truma combi`s are crap if its cold, ok on a summers night if it gets cool, but forget them in the winter, oil filled ones tend to be a bit slow to warm up, so I tried a fan heater but it was a bit noisy, so I bought a cheapo 2KW convector heater from Argos, works great and if you set your hot water setting to 1.8kw it dont trip.

Maggy has problems with the dry air from a fan heater (we have windows open all year) so we just use a 500W panel heater the same as this, we like to be warm under the covers but breath cold air

Our van doesn't get very cold unless the outside temp is extremely low and this just makes it right for us, if we are in the ice and snow we leave the gas heating on low

I've found Truma combi to be fine, heats the van very quickly and last winter I was warm as toast when it was -15 outside.

Would an electric blanket be good for that? (I bought one for my camper but never got round to using it as I like to breath warm air :) )

I thought mine would be fine too, but it wasn`t, I put a post up about a year ago and had loads of replies saying the electric heat output is nowhere near the gas output, gas works great though, but I`m not into paying for hookup and running gas too, so I bought the convector, which model do you have, in my manual it says that you have to supplement it with gas at low temps.

That looked quite compact, I could wall mount it, until I saw the 500w, the truma puts out 1.8kw on electric, I must have thin blood LOL., It`ll be the grouse.

I`m ok under the duvet, its just when I`m sitting on ma butt watchin the telly.

It's a 4e. Normally I use gas but even when on electic hook up it's been plenty, 1.8 kw on electric and 4 kw on gas. My van is not very big though and quite well insulated, it only cuts in to heat occasionally unless it's really cold outside.

It is compact but it does the job for us, we had a 1000/2000W one but we only used it on 1000W and Maggy kept opening the rooflight, our dogs don't like it too warm either, we have a cold fan on him until November to help his breathing

We tried one but neither of us wanted to get out to put the heating on in morning:lol-053:

When we were on hook up we had an electric fan heater but as you say it was noisy and I couldn't sleep for it so we bought a small oil free radiator quiet and warm

Ours is bigger, but not massive, before we bought the convector we used to boost it with the gas till we were ready for the shorts then switch it off.

I have a neat little remote kit to turn your inverter on and off ;)

as far as the original question goes, I installed an Eberspacher D2 Airtronic heater and it was totally brilliant - I intend to install another in my new van. As far as hookup goes, I never have done to date, but should the occasion arise, I have a little 500W oil-rad from Argos which works really well (used it to warm up the van while working inside it on the driveway), and wouldn't go for a fan heater due to to noise (the Eber fan is remarkably quiet once up to temp maintenance mode)

Our Truma combi warms the van up really well in fact too warm if on full

Diesel Eber for me. I sit there in the warm griping about paying road fuel tax for heating.

We've never had a Truma Combi that heats off EHU, not sure they even exist, but the 2 that we have owed over the last 7 years have been too hot, even in -10 and snowing. Maybe it was more the insulation in your MH rather than the heater?
