motorcycle accidents

Happens all the time Terry.

Not just people though, I've had near misses with Pigeons and Pheasants. We have a lot of Muntjac Deer in our area, I really wouldn't fancy hitting one of them at any speed.

Different to human road users though Rob. Animals can't be expected to have any road sense.

Country roads I used to drive along to get to work when in Derbyshire had more skimmers (frisbees) on them than hot dinners depending on the time of year - spring and early summer always the worst, when they're all breeding and not paying attention! ;)

I lost an entire headlight unit to a pheasant that dashed into the road at the last minute when I was doing 50mph on a long, straight stretch of road. (This was in a car, not on a bike, btw - thank gawd or it could have been much more serious).

Had friends whose vehicle was written off when a deer jumped hedge at side of road and landed on the bonnet of car. Car and deer a write-off, again would have been horrendous if on a motorbike (or pushbike even).

i always wore the open face helmet or the one with just the visor over the face & open at the bottom.
i tried a full face but i could'nt hack it, i felt to closed in.

I would wear a helmet on motorways on my trikes but not on other roads, well I had a leather flying helmet and goggles sometimes else a bandana or woolly hat 😁

i hated helmets . they cut down my peripheral vision , restricted my hearing, made my head sweat and caught buzzing insects which i'd have to stop and get rid of . they were forced on us by some H&S do gooder and obscured my classic good looks and covered my flowing locks . i thought they were dangerous

I used to hate them for the same reasons Nigel.

Nowadays though I quite like having a decent helmet on with speaker/Intercom so I can speak to my mate whilst riding, answer phone (if I wish to), listen to music etc. etc. Saves a lot of gesturing with the hands as well.

Dont mention flowing locks Nigel. I bought my first trike in Hull and rode it back to Buxton with no helmet, just a woolly hat and my hair lose, back then i could almost sit on it. Took hours for Caz to get the tangles out, always had it in a pony tail inside my jacket if I was going more than a few miles after that :)

giving your hair a quick ironing warms up the follicles and releases the natural oils ,making it a pleasure to run a comb through

i'd imagine ...

You can now get an anti-tangle spray for kids hair which works very well if you dont happen to have an iron handy :)

can't listen to anything when i'm driving - too scared the bastards who are obviously out to get me ,every other person on the road including pedestrians ,will see me distracted and strike !
when i recall all the people who stepped out in front of me ,or opened car doors , or indicated left while turning right , or decide to pull out and overtake while i was passing them ,or stuck their pushchair out from between parked cars to see if it was safe to cross, or who slammed on their anchors so their brat can look at a cow ,etc etc , i know i'm probably still alive because of this raging paranoia

Give it a try Nigel.

Oops.... Sorry!
